ysabetwordsmith: Text -- three weeks for dreamwidth, in pink (three weeks for dreamwidth)
This year in Three Weeks for Dreamwidth, I'll be posting questions from the new 2024 questionnaire that I made. If you like the questions, feel free to follow along. You can post your answers in a comment below, or make a post in your own blog and link to it in a comment.

Question 20: What is something that you believe that most other people don't? Why do you believe that?

[personal profile] dialecticdreamer is hosting Magpie Monday with a theme of "working on family." Leave prompts, get ficlets!

This is a prompt call, a chance to have more direct communication between the reader and the writer. If a reader wants a story about puppies, they can ask for it, including via pm with the resulting "prompted by A. Nonymous" when I reply to the post with a progress note. Each person who sends a prompt will get a reading copy of a short story (about 1k words). One of the stories would be posted tomorrow for everyone to enjoy. Sponsoring stories simply gives everyone more stories.

For those with spare money to indulge in stories, I suggest two cents a word-- the 1K mark would suggest $20 to have it posted for everyone to enjoy. I do understand that it’s an indulgence, and every single penny helps.
ysabetwordsmith: Damask smiling over their shoulder (polychrome)
This poem is spillover from the May 7, 2024 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by a prompt from [personal profile] rix_scaedu. It also fills the "March 25 Tolkien Reading Day" square in my 3-1-23: card for the March Is... Bingo fest, and the "Found Family" square in my 5-1-24 card for the Superhero Bingo fest. This poem has been sponsored by [personal profile] fuzzyred. It belongs to the Shiv thread of the Polychrome Heroics series.

Warning: This poem contains intense and controversial topics. Highlight to read the more detailed warnings, some of which are spoilers. It includes boredom, emotional upheavals, because the inside of Shiv's head is always a warning, because surprise, reconnecting with a lost family member, reference to past separation due to foster care interference, self-blame, miscommunication due to malicious sabotage, Nebraska's Family Services is a pack of abusive liars with a special hate-on for Shiv, rude language, mixed feelings, awkwardness, trust issues, past educational abuse, fraught educational issues, intrapersonal dissonance, financial revenge, and other challenges. Despite the emotional tensions, it's actually pretty upbeat overall, and it ends on a hopeful note. If these are touchy topics for you, please consider your tastes and headspace before reading onward. This is a key point in ongoing story arcs, so skipping it would leave a big gap. It comes after "The Hope and Freedom You Exude" and while they're not directly connected, they do relate to the same path.

Today is partly cloudy and warm. It drizzled a bit this morning, so everything is wet.

I fed the birds. I've seen several house finches, a mourning dove, and a fox squirrel.

EDIT 5/14/24 -- Cicadas are hatching! I've seen a few hatch earlier, but this morning after the rain there are lots of them. The biggest concentration is around the forest garden and edges of the patio. :D These are red-eyed cicadas, technically periodical cicadas. Their carapaces are almost hard, their wings fully extended but still too soft to fly. It's a feast for everything that eats insects. Humans can eat them too. (I'm not planning to try that.) Usually what we get here are various types of the larger green cicadas, like the dog-day cicadas. I have taken pictures to post later.

EDIT 5/14/24 -- I planted fennel, sweet marjoram, curry plant, and fernleaf dill in a trough on the picnic table.

EDIT 5/14/24 -- I planted a purple columbine in the rain garden.

There are more cicadas all along the driveway and in the savanna. The first ones are starting to fly. They're so beautiful.

EDIT 5/14/24 -- I transferred the contents of the old hanging pots to new hanging pots on the shepherd's hook by the barrel garden. So now the morning glory seedlings have a more stable base. The old hanging pots can be used as ground pots.

Halfway through this process, I spotted an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail on the flowering bush beside the picnic table. I ran inside to grab the camera and take pictures. :D 3q3q3q!!!! I am hopeful of finding caterpillars later, as I just planted dill and fennel.

EDIT 5/14/24 -- I removed the hangers from the formerly hanging pots. In one I planted a black petunia and a purple-and-white petunia plus two white alyssum. In the other I planted a ruffle petunia and two white alyssum. Then I put the pots on the patio.

EDIT 5/14/24 -- I planted two Iceland Poppies, one 'Champagne Bubbles Pink' and the other 'Champagne Bubbles Yellow' beside the barrel garden.

EDIT 5/14/24 -- I planted two 'Pink Passion' moss roses in the goddess garden.

By then it was starting to spit rain, so I just watered the things I'd planted today and called it a night.

I wrote this about today's cicada hatch. It fills the "chase" square in my 5-1-24 card for the Superhero Bingo Fest. It has been sponsored by Anthony Barrette.
