Poem: "Soldier's Heart"

This is today's freebie. It was inspired by prompts from rix_scaedu, see_also_friend, and mama_kestrel. It also fills the "high pain tolerance" square in my 8-1-23 card for the New Adventures Bingo fest. This poem belongs to the series Polychrome Heroics.

Birdfeeding

Today is cloudy and pleasantly cool, with a chance of rain.  We sure could use the rain.

I fed the birds.  I've seen several house finches and a fox squirrel.

EDIT 8/2/23 -- I put out water for the birds and watered a few plants. 

OG Marigolds are blooming in the container garden.  They're mostly a yellow-orange color and seem similar to my tall landrace marigolds.  The first of the nasturtiums is blooming.

I picked up a trolley of sticks and hauled it to the firepit.  

It's starting to spit rain but not enough to count as a drizzle.

EDIT 8/2/23 -- I hauled another trolley of sticks to the firepit.

Lawnmower is back from the shop.  \o/

EDIT 8/2/23 -- I watered the septic garden and plants in the yard by the house.

EDIT 8/2/23 -- I watered the telephone pole garden, wildflower garden, and notch in the prairie garden.

Gladioli are starting to bloom in the telephone pole garden.

EDIT 8/2/23 -- I watered the oak seedlings, tulip bed and its grass patch.

It's starting to sprinkle a bit.

Crickets are singing.  Fireflies are coming out.  Bats are flying.
 
With the cloud cover it's almost dark already, so I am done for the night.

Cuddle Party

Everyone needs contact comfort sometimes. Not everyone has ample opportunities for this in facetime. So here is a chance for a cuddle party in cyberspace. Virtual cuddling can help people feel better.

We have a cuddle room that comes with fort cushions, fort frames, sheets for draping, and a weighted blanket. A nest full of colorful egg pillows sits in one corner. There is a basket of grooming brushes, hairbrushes, and styling combs. A bin holds textured pillows. There is a big basket of craft supplies along with art markers, coloring pages, and blank paper. The kitchen has a popcorn machine. Labels are available to mark dietary needs, recipe ingredients, and level of spiciness. Here is the bathroom, open to everyone. There is a lawn tent and an outdoor hot tub. Bathers should post a sign for nude or clothed activity. Now there is a hammock too. Come snuggle up!

Poetry Fishbowl Update

Okay, I set up my "to be written" list.  Several of the remaining prompters stack together, not all in the same poem, but poems based on the same background.

* cora expressed interest in the East Is East and West Is West dual series, so first I have to stat up all those characters and set up the college worldbuilding class that led to the TV show.

* fuzzyred and mama_kestrel want folks watching an Eastern, so that's the show itself.

* wispfox wants to see Alicia and Judd with Eastern things, and there are East/West re-enactment faires.

I have no idea how long this will take to build, other than "not fast" -- it depends on whether the damn internet decides to balk like a mule again.  But that's the plan.

There's a few other things I'd like to write if I have time, which will depend in part on how long the earlier stuff takes.

Oh, and I've got a Llewellyn article due this week that's only 2/3 done because mule!internet.
