Nyiragongo Erupts

The volcano Nyiragongo in the Congo is erupting.  This picture shows the eruption with the city behind it.

Amusingly, I recognize the name from a Jurassic Park fanfic, in which someone named a baby Indomitus Rex after Nyiragongo.

Birdfeeding

Today is sunny, humid, and quite warm.

I fed the birds.  I've seen house finches, goldfinches, sparrows, and cardinals today.

I planted milkweed, orange butterflyweed, and yellow coneflower in 2 spots in the prairie garden.

A new iris is blooming peach-and-purple in the wagonwheel garden, and I don't think I've seen this one before.  It smells exactly  like cotton candy.  :D

EDIT 5/23/21 -- I planted 3 more spots in the prairie garden.  I'm out of milkweed and orange butterflyweed now, so I did the last one in shortgrass prairie mix.

EDIT 5/23/21 -- I planted 3 more spots in the prairie garden with either pale purple coneflower and yellow coneflower, or shortgrass prairie mix.

EDIT 5/23/21 -- I cleared 3 spots in the prairie garden, this time along the path in the middle.

Poem: "Rainbow Hills"

This poem is spillover from the April 20, 2021 Bonus Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from readera and Anonymous. It also fills the "taboo subjects" square in my 4-4-21 "Aspects" card for the Genderplay Bingo fest. This poem belongs to the Daughters of the Apocalypse series.

Warning: This poem contains intense and controversial topics. Highlight to read the warnings, some of which are spoilers. It includes the apocalypse, the Grunge, mass casualties, adults dying and leaving children and teens to fend for themselves, abandonment of an intersex infant, varying levels of respect for nonbinary identities, normalization of lesbian relationships, reference to pestering lesbians to have procreative sex, gay men viewed as selfish by outsiders, and other challenges. On the whole, though, Rainbow Hills is a successful commune and a good place for QUILTBAG people.
