Community Building Tip: Boat Sharing

For my current set of tips, I'm using the list "101 Small Ways You Can Improve Your City.

43. Paddle to work. Bike share and ride share have become commonplace. But paddling to work is another thing entirely. In Minneapolis, a paddle share system lets commuters ride the Mississippi, traveling between two stations on the mighty river. Since the boat docks are connected to the city bike share system, it uses both modes of transportation to get you to work.

This would also work in any area with a major waterway.  Parts of the northwest have ferries all over the place and most folks own a canoe or kayak.

Christian Environmentalism

Every once in a while, I come across a bit of Christianity that really impresses me. I've always said that, if Christians really believed the Bible, they would not despoil the Earth as they do. Well, here's one who actually read the Book and thought about it in detail, then described why Christians must protect the environment: because God made it and it belongs to Him. I'm delighted to see one of them saying that, because nobody listens when a Pagan points it out; and he said it quite a lot better and more thoroughly than I have.

There's even a word in it that I didn't already know, and what a useful word it is!

I don't think it is enough appreciated how much an outdoor book the Bible is. It is a hypaethral book, such as Thoreau talked about--a book open to the sky.

Hypaethral = open to the sky, as a temple without a roof.

;)  One might even say, skyclad.

And it's one of the most deeply, accurately Christian things I've ever read.  Jesus must adore  this dude.

Birdfeeding

Today is cool and gray.  It's spitting rain.  We need the water.

I fed the birds.

I saw a squirrel bounding across the yard with a walnut in its mouth.  :D

Hello, we are we_are_spc on DW; some may also know us as Fallon. We are headed to Indiana )Indianapolis to be precise) and may be spending time in Greenwood right near the Indy border.

While our family are, on the surface, good folks, sometimes they can be a little overprotective. What we want is someone who can come get us out of there if things get too volitile for us. Our family has no idea wwe're
collective, has attitudes bordering on childish, and may very well violate privacy and subject boundaries without meaning to, and we want a person they don't know of to be our 'we need out now' person.

What I want to avoid with this plan is becoming nonfunctional in front of them; being too nonluckid that I give in without a fight, and them taking away my agency from me *becauxse* I am that way.
