ysabetwordsmith: (moment of silence)
Ricky Jay has passed away.  He was an actor, magician, and card manipulator.  You may have seen his card-throwing routine. He has left behind many students and deep footprints in the magic field.

Everyone needs contact comfort sometimes.  Not everyone has ample opportunities for this in facetime.  So here is a chance for a cuddle party in cyberspace.  Virtual cuddling can help people feel better.

We have a
cuddle room that comes with fort cushions, fort frames, sheets for draping, and a weighted blanket.  A nest full of colorful egg pillows sits in one corner.  There is a basket of grooming brushes, hairbrushes, and styling combs.  A bin holds textured pillows. There is a big basket of craft supplies along with art markers, coloring pages, and blank paper.  The kitchen has a popcorn machine. Labels are available to mark dietary needs, recipe ingredients, and level of spiciness. Here is the bathroom, open to everyone.  There is a lawn tent and an outdoor hot tub. Bathers should post a sign for nude or clothed activity.  Come snuggle up!

In honor of the season, there is Pear Ginger Apple Cider mulling in a crock and a loaf of gingerbread on the platter.  The fruit bowl includes apples, pears, persimmons, and pomegranates.

I made this for supper tonight.  We both enjoyed it quite a lot.  :D

"Feel Better Chicken"

Ingredients:
blob of coconut milk (about 2 tablespoons)
lime juice (about 1/2 teaspoon)
white pepper
fine sea salt
2 thin-sliced chicken breasts

Directions:

Turn on Foreman grill.

Put a blob of coconut milk in a small dish. Add lime juice and taste. I added about 1/2 teaspoon. Grind in some white pepper and sea salt. Taste to see how the flavors balance. It should be creamy, slightly sweet, and a little tangy.

Brush the coconut mixture over both sides of the chicken breasts.

Put the chicken breasts on the Foreman grill and cook for 5 minutes.

Notes:

Inspiration and title for the recipe came from the song "Coconut."
You put the lime in the coconut, you drink 'em both together
Put the lime in the coconut, then you feel better
Put the lime in the coconut, drink 'em both up
Put the lime in the coconut, and call me in the morning

-- Harry Nilsson

Coconut milk is a thick creamy substance made from grated coconut meat. It has many health benefits, and its texture makes an excellent base for cooking things.

It is fairly important to use white pepper and white sea salt in this recipe. Switching to black pepper or mineral salt would probably taste okay, but many people dislike seeing dark specks on very light-colored food.

Serve with a brightly colored vegetable for contrast, such as peas or carrots.

ysabetwordsmith: Damask smiling over their shoulder (polychrome)
This poem is spillover from the September 18, 2018 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by [personal profile] redsixwing. It also fills the "grief" square in my 6-4-18 Mixed card for the Winteriron Bingo Adventure. This poem was sponsored by a pool with [personal profile] ng_moonmoth[personal profile] lone_cat[personal profile] bairnsidhe, and [personal profile] janetmiles.  It belongs to the Big One and Iron Horses threads of the Polychrome Heroics series.  It follows "The Hearts They Leave Behind," so read that first or this won't make much sense.

WARNING: This poem contains intense and controversial content that many readers may find disturbing. Highlight to read the warnings, some of which are spoilers. It includes foreboding, a death in the family, report of heroic sacrifice, extreme grief, men crying, self-injury and consensual other-injury as a culturally valid form of mourning, minor medical details, further worry over other relatives being unreachable, taking keys from someone in no shape to drive, giving up decisions for a while, and other challenges. This poem may be especially rough reading for anyone with complicated grief or self-injury issues. Please consider your tastes and headspace before deciding whether this is something you want to read. However, it launches an important thread, so skipping it would leave a big gap.
