ysabetwordsmith: Damask smiling over their shoulder (polychrome)

The April 5, 2016 Poetry Fishbowl met the $200 goal, so you get a free epic.  Everyone is eligible to vote in this poll.  I will keep it open at least until Monday night.  If there's a clear answer then, I'll close it.  Otherwise I may keep it open a little longer.

ysabetwordsmith: Damask smiling over their shoulder (polychrome)
This poem came out of the April 5, 2016 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from [personal profile] mama_kestrel, [personal profile] gingicat, [personal profile] chanter_greenie, and [personal profile] shiori_makiba. It also fills "The Genius" square in my 4-1-16 card for the Archetypal Characters Bingo fest. This poem has been sponsored by Anthony & Shirley Barrette. It belongs to the series Polychrome Heroics, and is the backstory for the poem "For the Purpose of Establishing Justice."

WARNING: This poem contains some disturbing material. Highlight to read the warnings, some of which are spoilers. There is graphic description of therapeutic abuse, discrimination against a neurovariant person, parents and social workers being worse than useless (although a later social worker is helpful), extreme emotional and psychological suffering, a meltdown culminating in reflexive use of telepathy which flattens a bunch of people (all of whom blame the sadistic therapist not the telepathic covictim), lots of repair work, coping skills, unexpected forgiveness, reference to a historic suicide, beginning a new life, and other challenges. The later parts are considerably more positive than the earlier parts, though. Please consider your tastes and headspace before deciding whether this is something you want to read.

The April 5, 2016 Poetry Fishbowl met its $250 goal, so you get a bonus fishbowl in one series.  This poll is for current donors, so you are eligible to vote if you have spent any money on the Poetry Fishbowl during 2016.  If you have not donated to the fishbowl this year but still want to vote, just drop a few bucks into an open epic and that will qualify you.  I will keep this poll open until at least Tuesday midday.  If there's a clear answer then, I'll close it.  Otherwise I may leave it open a little longer.

It belongs to the Officer Pink thread of the Polychrome Heroics series.

Today I planted and mulched two serviceberry seedlings.

Redbuds are showing pink but not opened yet, along with tiny leaves.  Apple and cherry trees are budding.  Hazelnut is also beginning to leaf out.  Peonies are up to knee height.

Last week's poetry fishbowl generated plenty of prompts, but not a lot of donations. Polls are currently up for the free epic and bonus fishbowl series. I still need to post the one for the general fund.

Poetry in Microfunding:
"Holding Hope and Love" belongs to Polychrome Heroics.  Lakia's counselor worries about her.  "The Door to Nowhere" is a crossover between P.I.E. and Schrodinger's Heroes.  Brenda and Darrel tangle with Evil!Schrodinger.

Torn World writing update:
Approved as canon: "Unicorns on Parade" "Spruce Deer" "Wandering the Heights" (poetry).  Back to me for edits: "Winterheart" (parts 2-3), "Stinging Like Nettles"  "Off the Clock" (poetry).  Currently in front of the canon board: "Ghost Bat" (nonfiction). Drafted: "Like Ash Before the Wind," "From Dark to Bright," "The Inappropriate But Useful Disposal of Lettuce" "A Thin Red Trail" (fiction), "Changes in the Wind" (poetry), "Southern Breads" "Tangleweed Article" (articles), Jularei (character sheet).  In revision at home: "Water Dance," "When the Wind's Teeth Sing," "Raining Kittens," "Finding the Holes," "Broken Hopes," "Brewing Beauty," "Little Paws in the Licenses" (fiction), "The Smallest Invaders," "Raising the Future" "Beach Pies" "Unsolid Ground" "Riding from the Rescue" "To Ride Death" (poetry), "Rammer" (nonfiction).  Currently writing: "Catch of the Day," "A Cold Clear Night" (fiction).

Today is a nice spring day, temperate and breezy, partly sunny.  It's been windy and rainy much of the week, so I haven't gotten much yardwork done.  Seen at the bird feeders this week: small flock of sparrows, several mourning doves, a pair of cardinals, many grackles, a red-bellied woodpecker, and a squirrel.  Daffodils are winding down, petals starting to shed from pear tree.  Currently blooming: daffodils, forsythia, plum tree, violets, hyacinths, pear tree.  Budding: apple tree, cherry trees, redbuds.  Leafing out: hazelnut.
