The September 4, 2012 Poetry Fishbowl met the $250 goal for a tally toward a bonus fishbowl, and that's three, so this perk is fully active.  The mid-month session will be on Tuesday, September 18.  Now you get to choose the featured series.

Everyone can vote in this poll.  I'll keep it open until at least Tuesday night.  If there's a clear winner then, I'll close it.  Otherwise I may leave it open a little longer.

Here are some habits of intelligent minds.  Most of these are standard for me, which I'd say "doesn't everyone?" except there are so many obvious idiots in the world.  A few are not part of my repertoire.
ysabetwordsmith: (Schrodinger's Heroes)
This story fills another square on my card for the [community profile] cottoncandy_bingo fest. It's the first crossover that I've done for the card. Begin with Part 1.

Fandom: BBC Sherlock and Original (Schrodinger's Heroes)
Prompt: Getting away from it all
Medium: Fiction
Summary: Morgan sneaks away from the rest of Schrodinger's Heroes. Sherlock sneaks away from John. Their paths cross in the same bar -- and they discover that they're both there to drown very similar memories of the same person.
Content Notes: Spoilers for BBC Sherlock Season 2. Flangst. Questionable use of alcohol to deal with personal problems. Sloppy, funny drunks. Oblique references to violence, manipulation, and other mayhem. Happy ending.

So we found out that a storm broke the mounting for an antenna on the tower, causing it to move randomly, causing our net connection to blip in and out.  That's fixed now, so service should return to what passes for normal here.  I'm slowly digging through the backlog.

These are some posts from the later part of last week in case you missed them:
Poem: "Cover Stories"

A Captain America Wimp

New Crowdfunding Project: "The Drawing Contraption"

I'll do the followup report for the September 4, 2012 Poetry Fishbowl when I can. There will be a mid-month fishbowl on Tuesday, September 18.

Poetry in Microfunding:
"The Lost and Found Legion" belongs to The Silk Road Allies.  It is now complete.  "A Bug on the Wing" belongs to the series P.I.E.  It is also complete.  "Strike Twice" (Path of the Paladins) opened and closed since the last update.

Torn World writing update:
Approved as canon: "Squiggles: Excerpts from Nleimen's Journal," (fiction) "Shards of a Different Past" "The Urge to Fly" "Camping on the Lost Road" "Neighboring Attractions" (poetry).  Back to me for edits: "Breaking the Ice," (fiction), "Patterns in the Grass" "A Nap Under the Stars" (poetry), "Half-Leg," (nonfiction). Currently in front of the canon board: "The Bones of Need" "Beached Fish" (fiction), "A Timely Gift" "Five Red Beads" "Sparkles in the Sky," "Smoke and Grass," "Felting Together," "After the Sauna," "A Light in the Darkness" "Purist Rights" (poetry), "Ghost Bat" (nonfiction).  Drafted: "Cutting Cords and Clasping Hands," "Like Ash Before the Wind," "From Dark to Bright," "The Inappropriate But Useful Disposal of Lettuce" "A Thin Red Trail" "The Museum of Mortality" (fiction), "Changes in the Wind" "The Urge to Fly," (poetry), "Publishers in the Empire" (nonfiction).  In revision at home: "Water Dance," "When the Wind's Teeth Sing," "Raining Kittens," "Finding the Holes" "Reaching for the Moons" (fiction), "Breeding the Perfect Fighter," "The Smallest Invaders" (poetry).  Currently writing: "Catch of the Day," "Winterheart" "A Cold Clear Night" (fiction).

We had intermittent storms this week, along with some temperate and pleasant weather.  Yard needs mowing again.  A few of the flowers are reblooming, like the petunias.

There are many more background posts about World Walkers this week: "4. Allies and Enemies Within the Thirteen Families" (I helped with this), "5. World Creators," "6. The Fae and Magic," "3a: The World Walkers Web, Continued," "7. The Nox Gadael," "6a. The Fae and Magic, Continued," "8: The Alati Felis," "9. Siaral," "10. Aerith," "11. Kniroch," "12. Beshaki," "13. Kankirin," "14. Raenarin," "15. Janoch," "16. Saethera," "17. Gaelom," and "3b. World Walkers Web Continued."  I am particularly intrigued by Janoch, Kankirin, Beshaki, and Siaral as settings; and by the Alati Felis and Nox Gadael as character races.

Some general posts include "Character Profiling" and "Thinking About Worldbuilding."

And there's new fiction!  "Riordan: Making Worlds" is a haunting inside view about doing the best you can with crappy options.  "Mira: Leaving Raenarin" is a creepy yet compelling fish-out-of-water story.  "Astrid: Arriving in Little Hill" is an uplifting story about meeting others of the same species.  "19. Persephone: Watching Mab With Hecate" captures the conflict between whether or not to get involved with someone else's mistakes.

If you like worldbuilding, this is a great time to go look at these examples.  Even as thumbnails they are distinctive, different from each other yet still fitting together.

This month's theme was "rights and responsibilities."  I worked from about 1:15 PM to 1:30 AM, so about 10 hours 15 minutes, allowing for lunch and supper breaks.  I started with offline prompts, then got a steady flow of new prompts, which tapered off.  I wrote 12 poems, just over half of them epics.  Most were combined prompts, and all free verse.

Activity was low.  Only 12 people sent prompts.  There were 32 comments on LiveJournal and another 2 on Dreamwidth, including mine.  Not much crosstalk either.

If you plan to sponsor some poetry but haven't made up your mind yet, read the list of unsold poems from September. That includes the title, length, price, and the original thumbnail description for the poems still available.

The linkback perk poem "Alone in the Bee-Loud Glade" has 5 of 15 verses posted.  You can reveal more verses by linking to the unsold poetry list, this report, or one of your favorite poems from this month's fishbowl.

All currently sponsored poems have been posted, and prompters have their backchannel copies of the rest.  Per the $200 goal, "A Princely Abode" is the free epic.  Per the $250 goal, this is the third tally; there will be a mid-month fishbowl on Tuesday, September 18.  Per the $300 goal, there will be a half-price sale, which I'm scheduling for mid-October; I'll do a poll for that closer to its launch.  There is also a bonus perk, "Cover Stories," for crossing the $400 threshold.

I still need to write the donor perk-post.  Donors this month include Stephen Laird, [livejournal.com profile] janetmiles, Anthony & Shirley Barrette, [livejournal.com profile] the_vulture, [livejournal.com profile] zianuray, and [livejournal.com profile] rix_scaedu.  Also [livejournal.com profile] marina_bonomi and [livejournal.com profile] ravan came in after the deadline.  It's all good.  Big thanks to everyone who chipped in.

Also, if you're following my Cottoncandy_bingo posts, these poems fill squares and are available for sponsorship:
"The Tapestry of Nocciolaia" (Fiorenza the Wisewoman, $10)
"Of Water and the Wheel" (Kung Fu Robots, $20)
"Hrafn's Nest" (Hart's Farm, $50)
The Serial Poetry page has been updated, and you can watch that for further poems that may appear later.

The Poetry Fishbowl project also has a permanent landing page.
