At closing time, the donation tally was $253.  Thank you all for your support!  You are made of so much WIN.

The $150 goal was for a free series poem.  The $200 goal was for a piece of background material, a character guide to Fiorenza the Wisewoman.  I added an impromptu $250 goal, a second series poem.  So now you get to vote on what serial poetry you want.  Look on the Serial Poetry page for an overview of the series and and unsponsored poems written previously.

These series currently have this many poems available:
The Clockwork War (2)
Fiorenza the Wisewoman (2)
Monster House (7)
The Odd Trio (1)
Path of the Paladins (4)
Poems About Phobic Starships (1)
Queen Choufa and the Rebel Drones (3)

First, decide whether you want to publish two free poems from the same series, or one poem in each of two different series.  Then choose which series you want.  I'll check this poll Saturday evening, and close it if there's a clear winner; if not, I may let it run a little longer.  After you pick the series, I'll post a followup poll if necessary to select specific poems if the series has extras.

You have $55 to spend.  There is one $10 poem left: "Bittersweet Preserves" (Fiorenza the Wisewoman).  There is one $15 poem: "Pandora's Gift."  There is one $20 poem: "Princess in Shadows" (The Ocracies).  You can cover all THREE of these shorter poems and still have $10 left over for microfunding!  There are two epics left: "Bringing Down the Blaggards" for $88 and "Grit and Grace" for $48 (Path of the Paladins).

There are also two poems currently in microfunding.  "The Inescapable Agony of Being" is science fiction about aliens passing as human; it needs $12 to be fully funded.  "The Morose Mascot" belongs to the fantasy series The Adventures of Aldornia and Zenobia, in which Amaia Thornestele's familiar runs away from home.  It needs $53 to be fully funded.

First, decide how you want to divide the funds across whole poems and microfunding.  Then decide the specifics for the microfunding.  I will check this poll Saturday evening, and close it if there's a clear winner; if not, I may leave it open a bit longer.

I requested a female knight in practical armor holding an infant.  Janet Chui delivered "Warrior Mother."  So much win!  Sword and shield and chainmail, and a wee little baby.  This is definitely a mom not to be trifled with.

*glee*  I love crowdfunding.  Let there be more women in practical armor.

[personal profile] wonder_city is a superhero soap opera webserial.  It's usually very tied to continuity, but "Ghouls and Cannibals" is a humorous outtake that stands very well alone.

[personal profile] anke has posted an update about Free Small Art 2.  This session was much more successful than the last, with more prompters and donations.  Very early sketches are visible, along with details about the perk thresholds.

I like this project because it's a very convenient character illustration step between the free icons of Tod Wills and the full-scene illustrations of [personal profile] meeks.  At this size you can get a good detailed head-and-shoulders or head-and-torso portrait, pull back for a full body with less detail, etc.  My request was for The Adventures of Aldornia and Zenobia, so watch for that to emerge later.

I've posted my article "The Sword Without a Hilt: Concepts of Evil" on the Greenhaven Tradition website.  This is a detailed discussion about the nature of wickedness that originally appeared in PanGaia  magazine.  It features quotes from many different sources including liturgy from different religions, speculative fiction, and history.

What do you think "evil" is?

To encourage people to favor facetime interactions over cellphone interactions, try "The Phone Stack."  You put all the phones together and the first person who answers theirs must pay a penalty, such as buying all the food if you're at a restaurant.

It's a nice alternative to "Turn that damn thing off!"  At various times in the past, I've had serious problems with people coming to my house and then ignoring me for their phone, or even having the blasted phone go off during a ritual.  First person to answer their phone washes all the potluck feast dishes, heh heh heh ...

[livejournal.com profile] aldersprig asked what my Poetry Fishbowl records look like.

It's all in MS Word because I don't work well with database format. There's a form for each month with all the stuff I track. Then there's a list of prompters and donors. Then there are donor records and addresses. At the bottom is a comparative list of things I track long-term.

At the end of the year, I compile about half-a-dozen data threads into a graph.

The blank version of the record file looks something like this:

This was a spillover poem from the January 3, 2012 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was prompted by [livejournal.com profile] minor_architect and sponsored out of the general fund.  [livejournal.com profile] minor_architect wondered about a magical jar for preserving things ... which there is, but it turned out differently than I expected.  This poem belongs to the series Fiorenza the Wisewoman, and you can read more about that on the Serial Poetry page.

Bittersweet Preserves
-- a sonnet

In Fiorenza's cottage is a jar
Of humble clay, its glaze the quiet blue
Of summer skies, its lid locked sound and true,
Upon the mantel where the dear things are.
No knife can scratch its surface, nor chips mar
The smoothness of its finish; naught can skew
The jar in its repose.  It stays in view,
As luminous and distant as a star.

It holds no leaf nor flower in its clasp
But memories of women dead and gone:
Carmela, Marietta in her grasp;
And others past, each one a paragon
Of driving death away from life's warm gasp;
In whose shade Fiorenza labors on.
