This is an advance announcement for the Tuesday, August 2, 2011 Poetry Fishbowl. This time the theme will be "corruption and redemption." I'll be soliciting ideas for characters of tainted heroes, villains with second thoughts, clergy trying to sway people toward good or evil, pollution, contagions, aspects of corruption, different types of redemption, things that taint people, inspiration for redemption, reasons why people switch sides, turning points along the path, hard choices, places that are tainted in some way, holy ground, restoration projects, and poetic forms in particular.  You can be creative about different spiritual, moral, or mundane interpretations of the terms.

New Perk #1: If donations reach $200, you get a whole extra fishbowl for a poetic series, including a free poem.  Everyone will get to vote on which series, and give prompts during the extra fishbowl, although it's likely to be a half-day rather than a whole day.

New Perk #2: I want to promote linkbacks pointing people to the "Fishbowl Open" post on Tuesday.  I have a spare series poem available, and each linkback will reveal a verse of the poem.  One person can do multiple links if they're on different services, like Dreamwidth or Twitter, rather than all on LiveJournal.

New Feature: I'm going to try using a progress meter to display donations so that you can see how close you are to the $150 goal (free series poem based on donor prompts) and the $200 goal (extra fishbowl).  The discussion suggests that a majority of fishbowl fans like the idea of a ticker.  Swim, fishie, swim!

If you're interested, mark the date on your calendar, and please hold actual prompts until the "Poetry Fishbowl Open" post next week. Meanwhile, if you want to help with promotion, please feel free to link back here or repost this on your blog.  I'll probably echo this fishbowl on Dreamwidth, in case LiveJournal crashes again.

LiveJournal going down pretty much wrecked my usual posting schedule.  I have put up the August Fishbowl announcement and a notice of another serial poem that I wrote.  Here are some posts from the previous week, in case you missed them:

Sunday Fic Meme: "Scum"
Interview with Steven Lambert of "Aether Dancer"
Character Images Gallery
That Thing I Give You Has a Name
"Gender Roles"
For all that water...
Torn Tongue: Nouns Beginning with "K"
By the time you saw them coming...
See the Sneezing Dragons
Testing a Ticker
Speaking of Patrons
Torn World: "Rhubarb Song"

The Spotlight week over in [livejournal.com profile] crowdfunding was a big success. We gained 125 new members and a lot of great posts. You can read more in the "Wrapup" or check out links in "Content Posts."

Torn World writing update:
Approved as canon: "Squiggles: Excerpts from Nleimen's Journal," "On the Rocks," "Swept Away" (fiction).  Back to me for edits: "Catch and Release," (fiction), "Seafoam Fashions" (poetry).  Currently in front of the canon board:  "Cutting Time," "Scars of Stone" (fiction) "Colorless," "Red Glass, Green Glass," "Hide Away," "The Ibabesh Bridge," "Scrimshaw," "Bitter Herbs" (poetry).  Drafted: "Cutting Cords and Clasping Hands," "Like Ash Before the Wind," "Breaking the Ice," "From Dark to Bright," "Beached Fish," (fiction) and "The Hearsay Cafe," "The Colors of the Rainbow, (poetry).  In revision at home: "Water Dance," "The Green Speech," "When the Wind's Teeth Sing," (fiction).  Currently writing: "Raining Kittens," "Catch of the Day," "Reaching for the Moons" (fiction)

There are four epic poems in microfunding: "Fiorenza and the Witch-Son" features Fiorenza the Italian herbalist musing about social roles and gender dynamics, at a time when there is NOT a major preternatural crisis going on. "Enki's Messengers" is essentially a sidebar to the Sumerian myth "The Descent of Inanna," focusing on the kurgarra and the galatur created by Enki. "Igor's Creature" is a mix of horror and science fiction with a large helping of sociology and a wry twist of humor.  The epic poem "A Periodic Table of Elementals" is ahead of production.

The weather here has been slightly less dire.  Hopefully we'll make it to the farmer's market tomorrow. Mostly I've been working on other writing stuff, with LJ being down most of the week. Speaking of that -- if you are on Dreamwidth, please friend me there too. I try to use it as a backup in case of LJ crashes.

[livejournal.com profile] meeksp made this cool icon for my Monster House series of poems.  If you look closely, you can see the gargoyles on the roof!  Hee!

You can see a batch of her other icons here.  She makes these as perks for commenters.  Posting a comment enters you in a weekly draw.

Check out the news from Aether Dancer.  They're making progress with donations, yay!

There's a video of the makeup test for the clockwork creation, Pandora.  I like this character.

The contest in finding a Lord Phelps has been extended until next Saturday, August 6th. Please pass the word about that.  I want to see how a crowdfunded casting call turns out.

Thanks to a donation from [livejournal.com profile] kyleri, you can now read two new verses in "Enki's Messengers."  This is an elaboration of the Sumerian myth "The Descent of Inanna" focusing on the kurgarra  and the galatur.
