Americans let themselves be fleeced by employers.  This happened because America exported a lot of socially progressive ideas to Europe, and people there ran with those, and then America decided to move backwards.  A lot.

This event brings together famous poets from different countries for lectures, performances, etc.  And there's no competition once they get there?  No contest to see who gets the chair?  My inner bard is deeply disappointed.  Tch.  If they have any sense at all, they'll do it impromptu in somebody's hotel room over a bottle of wine.

[livejournal.com profile] meeksp has posted today that her sketch based on my poem "Shine On" has already been commented upon by 10 people, so she's going to do more work refining the characters and foliage.  *happydance*  Thanks to everyone who helped make this possible!  You can see the sketch on LiveJournal or on Dreamwidth.

Also, the artist notes that her art-program received an update, which is responsible for that lovely chalky texture.  I think it does a marvelous job of mimicking charcoal, the way you can smudge it by hand for shading effects.

Memory Lane
See the other sketches of my work by [livejournal.com profile] meeksp by visiting my author tag.  As of this writing, there are two previous ones: "Without Fail" is from Torn World, and "Unfolding Wings" is from the Origami Mage series of poems.

If you enjoyed my poem "Shine On" and the sketch of it by [livejournal.com profile] meeksp, then I encourage you to read the short story inspired by both.  "Holy Walking Warrior" by [livejournal.com profile] siege is a haunting glimpse of shadow and light, and how paladins came to be.  I have linked this story on the poem's page too.

This is a followup to the July 5, 2011 Poetry Fishbowl.  The donations met the $150 threshold, activating the perk for an extra serial poem.  An audience poll decided on Shahana the Paladin (introduced in "Shine On") as the series.  Enthusiastic donors then provided me with a very tidy stack of prompts, which I turned into three poems.  Finally, the donors voted on which one to publish, "A Night More Full," posted below for your enjoyment.  This poem was prompted by [livejournal.com profile] morrigans_eve, [livejournal.com profile] janetmiles, [livejournal.com profile] laffingkat, [livejournal.com profile] the_vulture, and [livejournal.com profile] marina_bonomi; and Anonymous.

I have updated the serial poetry page; look under "Path of the Paladins" to see the complete list of poems in this series.  Also available for sponsorship are these two:

"The Canticle of Days" -- 106 lines, Buy It Now = $53
This poem reveals a bit about Shahana's history and training, and what she's doing with Ari now.  It also includes the Canticle of the Traveler -- which is written in rhymed, metered couplets -- tucked inside the free verse poem.

"To the Five Roads" -- 155 lines, $77.50
Shahana and Ari pause in their travels to restore an abandoned roadside shrine. This poem reveals a little more about Shahana's past, how she became a paladin and what she did.

Here is a terrific post about various aspects of writing webserials, and the differences between serialized novels and ongoing serials.

This article describes a major dust storm in the southwest, and discusses the possibility of such events increasing.

I've been watching for reports like this, anticipating this as a likely effect of climate change.  (It may or may not be related, but even if not, climate change is certainly not going to help.)  America has had a Dust Bowl effect before, and handled it very badly indeed.  Given the current political climate, I doubt a rematch would fare much better.

More WIP -- now the right side is beginning to show up.  I love the stag with the leafy antlers; he reminds me of Herne.

[livejournal.com profile] djinni created a lovely icon of the Torn World character Omorth, from this thread in the Free Icon Day Project.

Omorth is a no-gender person of Glifai descent, asexual, working in a Trefoil dance troupe.
