I tried to grow asparagus once. I dug a long, deep ditch, planted the dormant plants just like I was instructed to, and ended up with nothing but asparagus fern to show for it! The asparagus never got tall enough to harvest before it all went to fern.
I had to fool around with mine for a while before I found where it wanted to grow. I put a bed in the part of the yard where the stuff was wandering to.
I keep hearing tidbits about perennial GRAINS. Unfortunately the big seed companies don't like the idea, so you have to "know somebody who knows somebody" to actually get a sample of the seeds to grow. :\
