My friend [personal profile] aldersprig recently did a livewriting project, Drakeathon.  One result of this was the flash fiction "Souvenirs" which takes place in the same universe as my poetic serial Monster House.  See how several roommates deal with curious events in their house.

The really funny thing?  The metaphysical critters in the house where I live actually do this.  Stuff disappears or moves, but also, sometimes we wind up with stuff that nobody human brought into the house.  That's why I say things like, "I'm a good packrat; I can find what I'm looking for, plus or minus 10%."  The latest utterly wacky occurrence: while my partner and I were getting into bed, my pants somehow moved from the end of the bed to the head of the bed under the covers, while I was already in the bed.  Teleporting pants.  Gotta love it.

We acquire things in moves. Sometimes we can guess where it came from (Anne Rice books, joy), other times (4 crystal goblets. Nice ones) we're completely baffled.

Yes...

That has happened to us too, usually by the box. We know that at least one box of books went astray and at least one box of books spontaneously appeared.

Hmm...

Not sure if we've had glassware added. Doug collects the stuff, so it can be hard to distinguish between his spare commons and something that got chucked in by fairies.

We ended up giving the glassware as a gift. I think the cookie tins breed in the corner, too; I keep giving them away, and they're still all there.

Cookies!

Hrm, I tend not to have that sort of problem. I just forget where my stuff is or how much I have due to moving so much. I tend to envision it where it was in my last apartment. (which is why I can't find my Goo Gone).

Boggarts would not want Goo Gone, would they?

They might! They could use it to deal with ectoplasm?

That makes total sense. I should just break down and buy a new bottle.

You just never know what metacritters will take. Usually they'll snitch jewelry or food, sometimes books or clothes. But then it will be something really odd, like a roll of butcher paper that's almost too heavy to move by hand. (Turns out the fairies wanted that for the same purpose I did: pattern drafting.)

It is great for getting rid of sticky stuff. And smells like citrus!

Yeah, here that happens with spoons and plastic tubs. Also we have one set of shapeshifting forks. All but two or three of the long forks transmuted into short forks.

My mom has similar creatures in her home.

It may be more common than people realize. I think Monster House as a series/setting appeals to those folks who have encountered quirky things like this.
