Today's Adventures
May. 26th, 2026 09:36 pmToday we went up to Danville.
On the way up, we got lunch at Dairy Queen.
We went to Lincoln Square Mall to pick up Doug's music order at Record Swap.
Heading over to Danville, we actually had extra time, so we stopped at the marsh park for a little while. There is a little bit of water visible around the boardwalk, but only a few inches, and much of it had a metallic sheen on top. I saw no waterlilies, no signs of muskrats. Cattails and other tall plants crowded around the boardwalk in most places. Looking out over what used to be open water was now an expanse of wetland plants, including actual grass. 0_o We saw a cute barn swallow in a nest box, a vulture flying overhead, a white egret, a great blue heron, and a lot of red-winged blackbirds.
We ran an errand in Danville. Then we headed back to Champaign-Urbana.
We visited Barnes & Noble to look for a copy of Rooted in Fire, which they had and we bought. We also picked out a couple of magazines each. So that was a successful trip. \o/
We ate supper at Raisin' Cane. We love their buttermilk fried chicken.
After that, we did a bit of grocery shopping at Costco. We got an ice cream sundae from their eatery, this time with the fruit topping. It was billed as strawberry, but tasted much more like pie cherry, with a bright tart flavor that contrasted beautifully with the sweet ice cream.
On the way home, we saw a rainbow. It started out as just a small square, then slowly stretched into more of a rectangle. But it was on the opposite side of the sky -- east and a little south -- while the sun was setting in the west. I've read references that claim the sun has to be high in the sky to make a rainbow, but this is at least the second sunset rainbow that I've seen. At first it looked a lot like a sun dog, but those only appear right next to the sun. I didn't see any rain. So I'm not sure how it happened, but it was a pretty rainbow.
This has been a productive day.
