Today's Adventures
Mar. 25th, 2026 10:18 pmToday we ran errands and visited the Charleston Food Forest. It's been drizzling rain on and off today.
I assembled the garden bag with a spare trowel, lots of plastic bags, paper and pen, gardening gloves. I couldn't find spare pruners so I'd like to add that. Maybe a roll-up sunhat too.
On the way into town, we saw a herd of deer and a tortoiseshell fox. Very clearly a fox, with a white tail-tip, but with streaks and patches of black and cinnamon; not the usual rust-red of a red fox nor the salt-and-pepper of a gray fox. Fascinating. Excellent camouflage.
We ate lunch at China Cafe. My partner Doug got Almond Chicken while I got an egg role and crab rangoons. The prices were cheap, service fast, portions quite large, quality okay but not impressive.
We ran some errands.
The Charleston Food Forest is starting to green up. Many things are still dormant but some trees like cherry and plum are blooming. :D I rescued a few things that were growing in paths. I took a bunch of pictures, then walked across the lot to check the Coles County Community Garden.
After that we went home. Then we realized that we forgot a couple of stops.
I managed to plant the Egyptian walking onions, crosne knotroots, and groundnuts at home.
After supper, we went back out to gas up the car and shop at County Market.
It's been a very busy but productive day.
