A friend asked for suggestions of ways to maintain posting momentum after [community profile] snowflake_challenge ends. There are plenty of ways to build momentum and keep up your posting frequency. Here are some ideas.

There are many ways to accomplish this. The most important thing for success is simply to try many different things, note what works for you, and when something doesn't work just drop it and try a new thing. Some possibilities include...

* Decide how often you'd like to post. Daily, weekly, monthly? Then choose some things to fill that frequency. Recurring Posts has ideas for days of the week, monthly, and other post themes. Frex, you might do Monday Update, WIP Wednesday, and [community profile] thefridayfive. For reference, weekly seems to be about average for Dreamwidth. Most readers consider a blog active if it updates at least monthly.

* Schedule reminders. I write my recurring posts in a desktop calendar, or I'd never remember them all. Another paper option is a bullet journal; [community profile] goals_on_dw has a list of free printable trackers. Some folks prefer a to-do list app or calendar app.

* Blogging events. Options include [community profile] marchmetamatterschallenge for archiving your meta or posting new meta, Three Weeks for Dreamwidth (April 25-May 15) for blogging here every day, and [community profile] sunshine_revival for fannish interaction in summer. I haven't seen a fall one yet that has the platform-spanning activity of the above.

* Challenges. [community profile] goals_on_dw has challenge posts for Fannish 50, Arts and Crafts, Nature, Reading, and Writing among others. Some of these are year-long, others monthly or seasonal. Lots of folks like to post their progress or "thing a day" entries. Watch your friends list for more activities.

* Memes. Many things float around the blogosphere including quizzes, picture prompts, "Do X and post what you find," etc. These are good to grab when you don't have other ideas but want to post. You can also make a file to save them for future reference.

* Holidays. Use a site like National Day Calendar to look up holidays for a theme or just the silliest ones you can find, then add some to your schedule. Post the day before or day of the holiday with its name, a link that explains it, and one or more ideas for celebrating it. This is especially useful if your blog has a specific theme.

* Join communities with check-in or gather posts. There are some in Most Useful Communities. [community profile] newcomers has lists of Daily, Weekly, and Monthly options.

* Get a checklist of talking points, questions, or things to post about. Important tip: Avoid making all of them long posts. It's very convenient to have some that you just copy-paste or that need only quick answers. Some ideas:

* Make a list of websites about your favorite topics that update frequently with news or other interesting posts. "Here's a link to a cool thing I found" is among the most popular quickie posts. I do it so often that I have readers who basically use me as a newsfeed.

* Make friends. This one is primarily about motivation; when you have plenty of friends who post regularly on a platform, you'll want to check it often enough to keep up with them. Depending on the type of friends, you may also get link posts of the "Go check out X by Y!" type. See the Add Me communities and [community profile] friending_memes for opportunities.

* Volunteer. Some communities have projects that you can volunteer to host. [community profile] allbingo runs a new fest each month, and anyone can host one; see the 2026 Community Calendar for details. [community profile] bookclub_dw also has monthly hosts who suggest 3 titles for members to vote on, and once the book is chosen, at the end of the month they make a discussion post. And so on.

* Watch for ideas from other bloggers. Some of the copy-paste or question list posts that you see in communities or individual journals may be things you'd like to try in your own blog.
