Today's Adventures

Today we went out erranding and shopping.
We picked up the mail. Lots of new magazines today.
We checked out the new thrift store, Thrifty Findz. (There's a Facebook page too.) It's been in that location for 6 months but had an online presence much longer. There's a lot of bohemian stuff -- clothes, shoes, jewelry, knickknacks, etc. Some things are bargains, others are priced at antique or boutique rather than thrift levels. But it is all cherry-picked, so it's more quirky treasures than everyday stuff. So for instance, I found 12 rolls of washi tape for $0.60 each, while the gorgeous fox-printed T-shirt was at least twice what I'd pay at a typical thrift store but I didn't have to wade through a barn full of stuff to find it. I'm willing to pay extra for someone with a crow's eye for treasure. :D
Next we stopped at Half Moon. Normally I find one or two things there. Today I found a lot -- and that's after most of the T-shirts I liked weren't available in my size. They tend to have only 1-2 of each so sizing is kind of random. I picked out a gray-green one that says "Become obsessed with your own potential." I got two small houseplants: a succulent with tiny reddish leaves and a "Pink Princess" with lanceolate leaves variegated in pink and green, apparently a type of philodendron. Then there's a suncatcher with multiple prisms and a metal plant leaf holding them together, very flashy. The most spectacular is a tall metalwork piece with a column of mirrors down the middle. And we got a free bag of truly excellent caramel-filled chocolate truffles. <3 So that was a big chunk of my birthday shopping.
We went to Rural King for Evergreen potting soil. Then I noticed that they had all-purpose sand, so I got a bag of that. Especially late in the season, I often wind up working with potting soil that isn't quite what I need -- either too light or too heavy -- so it occurs to me that having ingredients to mix in would help solve that problem. Plus it's useful for making terrarium substrate. I also picked up a cinnamon fern and two 'Karl Rosenfield' dark pink peonies.
The most memorable thing about this stop was a girl wearing The Dress. You know, the floor-length white lace dress worn by a girl wafting through a field of wildflowers. It is absolutely the last thing one should ever wear in a field, or that I would expect to see someone wearing at a farm store.
We had two grocery stops to make, Wal-Mart and County Market.
For lunch we picked up sliders from Arby's. We also got to try out the Andes mint milkshake, which is really great -- it has that creamy note so characteristic of Andes, with a good balance between the mint and chocolate layers.
It has been a fun and productive day. \o/
