Good news includes all the things which make us happy or otherwise feel good. It can be personal or public. We never know when something wonderful will happen, and when it does, most people want to share it with someone. It's disappointing when nobody is there to appreciate it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our joys and pat each other on the back.

What good news have you had recently? Are you anticipating any more? Have you found a cute picture or a video that makes you smile? Is there anything your online friends could do to make your life a little happier?

I started my new job and this is my 2nd week. The company and team are lovely. There are lots of resources to check when I have questions. The callers seem to be polite and calm even when upset or frustrated. My manager & my coworkers are available for questions and encourages me to ask for help when needed. I'm being included in a congratulatory gift card for everyone on the team for doing well in Feb, even though I started in March.

To my surprise, when I sat down the day before Bandcamp Friday (I'd planned more than a day, but wasn't feeling well earlier in the week and my oldest cat needed surgery to remove a mass and that happened that week, and other stuff was taking up time too), but anyway, back to the narrative. So, Bandcamp Friday is a day when Bandcamp waives its fees so musicians get more of any purchase someone makes on that day. It is typically the first Friday of the month, but doesn't happen every month. However, a bunch of my friends specifically look for stuff to buy on Bandcamp Friday, which makes it a good goal to put something up right before then or early on that day.

So, I did FAWM in February, which was harder than usual because a bunch of my mental bandwidth was occupied with other stuff. FAWM stands for February Album Writing Month, and the goal is to practice the art of songwriting/composing. I often get a bunch of songs I like, but usually the demos are really rough.

So, back to my happy surprise--This February I wrote fewer songs, but sitting down last Thursday with the goal of getting at least something published for Bandcamp Friday, I realized that while some performances weren't ready for prime time, so to speak, I had enough things that, while not perfectly polished, I wouldn't be ashamed to publish as is or with minor edits. AND I managed to do those edits, write up the liner notes, create cover art for the albums and for each song, and copy over the lyrics. I managed to get two albums posted in the early morning hours on Friday:

By the Dreamside, mostly filk (7 songs), and
Make a Fuss, protest songs (4 songs).

I used to be astonished that people would publish their FAWM demos. But here I am having done that this year. I guess I leveled up a bit without realizing it!

I have Wiley (mike and I are doing shared co-parenting until he moves in this summer) and it's been a blessing since I have three days off from work (plus tomorrow as my regular day off) for grievance since my Grandmother passed away. And having him around has been good company. He's a good dog!

[personal profile] pocketnaomi and I put together four bookcases and set them up in the livingroom. We have started unpacking books. (They're not all going to fit, but the only way to know what can safely go back into storage is to unpack them all.)

Also, I got a lovely video call from my daughter for my birthday.

I got an unexpected gift from one of my Internet friends, something I'd been wanting - I had found one online, and I was going to email the URL to my husband and our son and tell them "this is what I want for Mother's Day". But out of nowhere my friend sent me one, and it's making me very happy when I use it. So today and tomorrow I'm trying to put together a Saint Patrick's Day dinner, without corned beef. I've got a very simple recipe for Irish Soda Bread, and I'm probably going to make some kind of roasted chicken thing. And the only green thing to wear I own is a ponytail elastic. Maybe when I'm out shopping for the chicken I'll find a green bow-tie or something. (Everything I own is purple.)
