I agree about the traumatic past. I saw a trailer for a new Superman movie and the screencap image made me think, "Wow, that superhero looks like a refugee ... oh wait, he actually IS a refugee." I mean once you blow up a planet, every Kryptonian is pretty much fucked in the head.
