I spotted this trailer for Superman.  I looked at the sample picture and thought, Wow, that guy looks like a refugee rather than a superhero.

... oh wait, that superhero is  actually a refugee.

The word "skinhead" does leap readily to mind, doesn't it? Much could be done pitting a bigot against a refugee. Very timely stuff, that. Imagine Superman being all over the refugee crisis, trying to help people, because he understands what it is to lose everything and depend entirely on the kindness of strangers -- while Lex loses every last speck of his shit trying to keep "those people" out of America. Basically just slot him into Elon Musk's position.

On the other hoof, I did find the very gay romance subtext in Smallville to be adorable. OMG I went to junior high with those guys. I spent the whole first couple seasons wanting to drag them behind a barn and hand them a copy of The Joy of Gay Sex. Which is one of several reasons why Lawrence has that book on his shelf.
