A New Study Reveals a Warp Drive That Actually Operates Within Known Physics
According to the team, this new concept uses a “sophisticated blend of traditional and novel gravitational techniques to create a warp bubble that can transport objects at high speeds within the bounds of known physics.” This is known as a “Constant-Velocity Subluminal Warp Drive,” and as the paper describes, the technique matches previous theoretical solutions—including those explored by Alcubierre. But crucially, this concept stays within the known realm of physics.
This news comes only a few weeks after AP announced the creation of the Warp Factory, an online toolkit designed for researchers studying the physics and engineering of warp drives. Christopher Helmerich, another senior scientist at AP, said this toolkit was a “reality check” for the warp drive research field, and that (according to its website) the company plans to offer up $500,000 in grants for proposed research that does not rely on exotic concepts such as “negative energy or superluminal matter.”.This new model is the first fruit of that mission.
See what happens when you make scientific material readily available? You get warp theory! In less than a month.
Put that in your hat and wear it, people trying to monetize everything.

what did Roddenberry know?!
And yeah, that's what happens when you share knowledge!!

Well, there are various possibilities, including but not limited to:
* extrapolating from known science
* looking into another universe and observing not only what they do but how they actually make things work
* farmemory of similar worlds and how things can be done.
I've used all three. Nobody believed me about email viruses being possible until they happened, but really it's obvious; anytime you can send something good, you can send something bad.

One of my science fiction settings has the Common Ground colony, founded on common sense. They have a science contest that's always running, and whenever someone solves the current problem, it gets replaced with a new one. The price includes a substantial amount of cash, the use of a lab for several years, and a research budget -- with no strings attached, just turn loose one of the smartest teams on the planet to study whatever interests them.
They are so consistent with inventing awesome stuff, that even though they keep getting trade embargoed because they drive everyone else nuts, it never lasts for long because nobody can stand doing without their inventions. :D And their tax structure lets you put your money into whatever you think is important. The year the laser snowplows were released, they funded almost instantly because everybody wanted those for their town.
