These are the notes for "Look in Detail at Human Anatomy."

"Looking in detail at human anatomy, I'm always left with two practically irreconcilable thoughts: our bodies are wonderful, intricate masterpieces; and then -- they are cobbled-together, rag-bag, sometimes clunking machines."
-- Alice Roberts

"The Human Body Is Simply The Most Beautiful Complexity."

Frank the Functional Flexible Skeleton on Hanging Roller Stand - 3B Smart Anatomy
3B SMART ANATOMY – the new way of learning and teaching human anatomy is now included for FREE with Frank the Functional Flexible Skeleton on Hanging Roller Stand Model!
This unique scientific Functional Skeleton comes on a hanging stand and features a unique flexible assembly of all joints, allowing you to perform the individual movements in a nearly lifelike way. You can even demonstrate the complex motions of the upper extremity. The shoulder blades rotate along when the arms are raised. Even the position of the radial and ulnar bones during inward and outward rotation of the lower arm can be graphically demonstrated. The flexible spine allows for natural movement (lateral inclination, flexion and extension, rotation). Even the restricted mobility of the iliosacral joint and the sacrococcygeal joint can be demonstrated. A great functional model of the human skeleton

Human anatomy is designed to protect as many of the body's vulnerable parts as possible. So for instance, bones shield most of the vital organs pretty well. Major blood vessels tend to run deeper inside the body, with smaller ones toward the surface, and the largest ones in the limbs are toward the inner side of the body to defend against attacks from the outside.

This is actually a diagram of safe impact areas for kink play. It's the one piece that isn't standard educational material, so Dr. Bloch only shows it to Shiv rather than giving him a copy. It's more useful to Shiv, and less risky, than showing him an image of the body's weak points which would violate prison rules regarding violence. Areas safe for impact play are also the least likely to sustain permanent damage from street fighting injuries, and conversely, the unsafe areas are most vulnerable.

Anatomy studies the structure of organisms and their parts. Among the reasons for studying it is art. Learn how to study anatomy. These are some popular anatomy books for artists.

Breaking bones can cripple an opponent, but it has a lot of stopping power.

Time of useful consciousness (TUC), also effective performance time (EPT), is defined as the amount of time an individual is able to function effectively (e.g. perform flying duties) in an environment of inadequate oxygen supply.

All vertebrates on Earth can be killed by separating the brain from the rest of the nervous system. This is useful to know in case one of them tries to kill you.

I actually wanted to get a real skeleton for my office, but prohibitively expensive. Ended up buying a skull. The father of someone I trained with was a retired anatomy professor, from back in the days when places like India didn't mind selling skeletons. When he downsized from a house to a condo, he sold off some of his collection and I bought Bob (my name for him). I drove home very carefully, having a slight fear of being stopped by the police, who would search my car, and find a skull. Bob now sits proudly on a shelf behind Evil Secretary. Occasionally, if I have a child with scientific interest, I'll show it to them close up. Might even let them gently touch it, but Bob is fragile, not to mention a bit cranky (something he shares with everyone at my office).

Awesome! A basic knowledge of anatomy is also useful when talking to health care professionals. Knowing what to call that muscle that always knots up -- the quadratus lumborum in my case -- conveys a lot more information than just "lower back pain". Including telling the PT or massage therapist that, yes, I know what I'm talking about and it's happened before.

MDs are definitely problematic. That's why I selected an ARNP for my primary care doctor.

I observe that most medical professionals have a "Wait, what?" moment when a patient or patient's relative begins speaking medical jargon.

Most of the ones I've seen just roll with it after the initial surprise. Of course the people in my family rolled some fairly high social-privilege stats, in terms of appearance and behavior. And I probably wouldn't go back to someone who tried to attack me if I could help it. Ironically, I've had more annoying mental health professionals than physical doctors, go figure.
