This poem came out of the January 2, 2024 Poetry Fishbowl. It fills the "Down Hearted Blues" square in my 1-1-24 card for the Public Domain Day Bingo fest. This poem has been sponsored by
janetmiles. It belongs to the series A Poesy of Obscure Sorrows.
"Plata Rasa"
the lulling sound of a running dishwasher,
whose steady maternal shushing somehow
puts you completely at peace with not
having circumnavigated anything solo
The sound washes through
the room like rain, like wind,
like a river running downhill.
The dishwasher hums and
churns, white noise filling
the dim kitchen with comfort.
When you're tired and sad,
and the down-hearted blues
make it hard to do anything,
then you can sit and listen to
the sound of the dishwasher
doing all the work for you.
It doesn't matter what
you have or have not
accomplished in life:
still your dishwasher will
always be there for you
like the rain, the wind, the river.

I like this
Date: 2024-01-08 06:35 pm (UTC)I especially like the almost-musical sound of the water hitting the bottom of a light-weight aluminum stock pot.
I also like rinsing dishes and loading them into the dishwasher. Which is a good thing because nobody else in the household likes to do it.
