"The Uncontested Stars"

[Saturday, May 28, 2016]

Bùyǔn Long was used to men
paying attention to her, for
all of the wrong reasons.

She wasn't used to having
actual fans, though.

She had fans now,
and not all of them
were even men.

Some of course
were K-pop fans,
or now that she had
a velociraptor body
and a band, V-pop fans.

But that's where things
started to get interesting.

She also had dinosaur fans.

They weren't like anything
she had encountered before.

Dinosaur fans were fascinated
by her new body with its girl voice
and its velociraptor voice, its teeth
and claws and even fake cloaca.

They didn't want to talk about sex;
they wanted to talk about how she
got her dinosaur body to dance
or how strong her bite was.

Bùyǔn Long found herself
enjoying the fanmail that
flooded her inbox now.

Among her favorite fans
was a family of three
(soon to be four).

Denby Foss worked
at a museum, doing
dinosaur presentations.

Paula Foss wrote a variety
of children's books, often
featuring dinosaurs.

Samuel Foss was
a science teacher who
loved getting students
excited about dinosaurs.

They were expecting
their first child, a boy,
and had posted pictures
of dinosaur-themed decor
for their new nursery.

Why did you choose
dinosaurs as a theme for
the baby's room?
she asked.

Bùyǔn Long knew why she
had chosen a dinosaur body,
but she was pretty sure that
wasn't their reason at all.

Paula's melon-belly made it
clear they liked sex just fine.

We chose it because dinosaurs are
the uncontested stars of paleontology,

Samuel wrote back. Everyone
loves the terrible lizards!

The nursery decorations
were cute little cartoons,
not terrible looking at all.

Bùyǔn Long wondered if
the boy might like a picture
of her when he got older.

She wondered if she
should have cartoons
of herself done, so that
her younger fans could
have something now.

Do you think I'd make
a good cartoon dinosaur?

she asked her fans.

I could draw you as one,
Paula offered. I do the art
as well as the stories for
my children's books.

Put that on a T-shirt,
Denby said. We could
sell them at the museum
.

Yes, I was thinking of
T-shirts for my fans,

said Bùyǔn Long.

I know the place that
makes the T-shirts for
the museum,
said Denby.
The bigger the order gets,
the cheaper each T-shirt.
Want to split a package?

That sounds wonderful,
Bùyǔn Long said. I'll send
you some pictures for inspiration.

She just loved dinosaur nerds;
they were the uncontested stars
of fandom in her opinion.

Has she appeared before? I'm curious about how she got her velociraptor body.
