This poem was inspired by the
sunshine_challenge and Prompt 7 bonus: Opal. It also fills the "savory" square in my 7-1-22 card for the Body Parts Bingo fest. This poem belongs to the series Arts and Crafts America.

Opalescent Reflections
[July 2022]
Its mythology is mixed
and always has been.
Opal is said to bring
good luck, or bad luck,
to attract all sorts of spirits,
the savory and unsavory.
In truth, it's nothing more
than a mirror, reflecting
the one who wears it.
The human soul is
a roil of fire, sparking
in all the different colors.
What you see in the world,
or the stone -- what you
draw into your orbit --
is nothing more or less
than whatever type of fire
you have chosen to fan.

Date: 2022-07-25 08:15 pm (UTC)I have found that when evidence points in multiple directions, usually there is more than one thing going on. So if a stone is said to produce wildly different results for different people, it's likely responding to something in or around those people -- and in the stories, the "bad luck" correlates with other negative things, while more positive people are said to have "good luck."
