This poem is for the
sunshine_challenge and Prompt 5: Bloodstone. It also fills the "foot" square in my 7-1-22 card for the Body Parts Bingo fest. It belongs to the series Arts and Crafts America.

"The Athlete's Edge"
[July 2022]
Athletes believe that
bloodstone gives
them an edge.
They carry pebbles
carved with desires:
courage, motivation,
endurance, agility,
fleetness of foot, or
physical strength.
In locker rooms
and stadiums hang
bloodstone wall plaques
carved with the images
of past athletes and
wishes for good health
and excellent performance.
Even for those who don't believe,
really, these things become
touchstones, familiar landmarks,
symbols of hope and aspiration.

If this isn't a personal call out, I don't know what one is xD
Thank you!

Finding polished ones, or someone to polish them, is a little more challenging but still doable. Getting a metal plate engraved is easy; lots of places do that. It'd probably be cheaper to buy small bloodstone tiles to piece around a plate rather than one large slab, but both are options.
I knew a rockhound growing up, so this is familiar territory for me.
