Cuddle Party
Jul. 13th, 2022 05:02 amEveryone needs contact comfort sometimes. Not everyone has ample opportunities for this in facetime. So here is a chance for a cuddle party in cyberspace. Virtual cuddling can help people feel better.
We have a cuddle room that comes with fort cushions, fort frames, sheets for draping, and a weighted blanket. A nest full of colorful egg pillows sits in one corner. There is a basket of grooming brushes, hairbrushes, and styling combs. A bin holds textured pillows. There is a big basket of craft supplies along with art markers, coloring pages, and blank paper. The kitchen has a popcorn machine. Labels are available to mark dietary needs, recipe ingredients, and level of spiciness. Here is the bathroom, open to everyone. There is a lawn tent and an outdoor hot tub. Bathers should post a sign for nude or clothed activity. Come snuggle up!

It's just me...for now
Date: 2022-07-13 10:48 am (UTC)Ug, this not having a job thing is making me crazy (And the rest of my people) and in the craziness, ive decided to gice crocheting a second go. So far so good, I'm already twenty stitchesinto a simple chain, and I can pretty much finger/hook crochet. For my first day, not too shabby.
Oh also? to combat the boredom, there is also this ongoing prompt call. Help me oult plz by dropping/spreading? Because I'm out of prompts...and frankly could use more. xd
How's it been in your neck of the woods? Are you dying of the same heat wave?

We had heat waves earlier, but at present the weather is okay here.
Re: It's just me...for now
Date: 2022-07-14 12:17 am (UTC)Yeah same here, althought today was definitely hotter than I would've liked for the outside activities my aunt and I were doing. and, hoo boy whas that a commedy of errors.
Go ahead, try to plant roses (in three different places)...except not because obstacles (Anything from an old railroad tie back by the pateo door, or the excess cement from the foundation (in two different places)). I'ld probably be able to plant them...if I had access to something like a power trencher or hole digger, but I don't.
So tubs it is...which is not making me very happy because I don't want to have to change the freeking tubs every (incert number) of years or so. Blurg. So we only ended up getting only one (of th four rosebushes I've had for about three months now, still in nursery pots) because of that mess.
On the brighter sid, if I ever moove, that's three less roses I have to nurse cuttings from and can (maybe) come with me if I move...*if* I move...eventually.
Also, thank you. :)

Date: 2022-07-14 12:47 am (UTC)Well, you can't tell by looking, but there are other ways. People use stitch markers, which are little loops or clips, to mark stitches. You could use them to mark whether or not you've done a stitch if you have to put down your work.
You can't see the chain grow, but you can feel it with your fingers.
If your current project is not sized to feel easily, consider switching up to chunky yarn and hook that you can feel better. Or with finger-crochet, get a shoelace or something and practice with that. Once you get the hang of it, you can go back to smaller ones.

Date: 2022-07-14 01:13 am (UTC)(My active hand is my left one: my right one holds the hook. I'm curious to see if other fronters switch that around some. I'm thinking not, but we'll see)

Re: It's just me...for now
Date: 2022-07-14 03:32 am (UTC)They can be used for other things than counting, like "stitch done" vs. "stitch not done" etc.
>> Also, I started with chunky yarn. Or more like thicker yarn because I felt like it would be easier to handle than the thinner ones. The friend teaching me suggested that. <<
Yay!

Date: 2022-07-14 03:28 am (UTC)Stitch markers are typically color-coded and come in sets of 10 to 20. However, I've found some that are coded in different ways, most often by including beads or charms of different shapes. There are lots of crafters who make these things custom on Etsy and so forth. If you decide that you like stitch markers and want to use more than one at a time -- they are normally used to mark multiple places in complex patterns -- then it shouldn't be difficult to find someone willing to make a shape-coded set.
Braille beads exist but are stupidly expensive. Just find anything with a hole that comes in different shapes. Though I suppose if you have a Braille label maker, you could punch letters or numbers with that and then make a hole to thread it on a plastic safety pin.
Crochet is a popular hobby with low-vision folks because it is so tactile. Something to consider is that, once you learn, there are many stitches with different textures, and some that make raised bumps. That means it's easy to make a project with patterns you can enjoy by feel, like an afghan where each square is a different texture or the bumps make a message or raised lines make a picture. Crochet is one of several crafts that uses grid patterns, and grids are easy to mark in tactile form with a pegboard, though you might need someone to translate it for you.

Date: 2022-07-13 10:29 pm (UTC)Cuddles available in my newly-constructed fort. Come on by when you feel like it. =D
I have a crochet project in the works myself. A little something to fill in some of the summer. Just posted an update yesterday if you're interested to read about it. I hope your renewed interest works out well.
Not much of a heat wave here at the moment, but had a good long one back in June. A reprieve is definitely welcome. =]

I might. Depending on how image heavy it is, though, the descriptions might be all I get as i'm totally blind. :)
I could've sworn I heard thunder (I'm in Indiana somewhere) but we'll see if it ends up raining any/.

Cuddles while we work? Or perhaps when we are ready for a break, if cuddles will interfere with the yarn work.

Date: 2022-07-13 10:19 pm (UTC)Various events of the past few days really have me in the mood to cuddle. Like, realllly cuddle. Limbs intertwined, close enough to hear their breathing and feel their heartbeats. The flap to the fort is open - pop on by. =]
