A good list of dead/dying foreshadows in fiction.  Less the ones from horror movies where any sexual activity is fatal.

Saying "goodbye" can be a flag in RL, especially if it is out-of-character. (Someone figured out Walt Disney was dying this way.)

A child leaving a favorite toy - or an adult abandoning/being careless with a favored possession happens in RL too, both because of danger or anticipated mortality.

And the helmet thing - again, as a deviation from routine, it can signal danger or a doomsday mindset.

While none of them neccesarily cause death, they can clue someone in to knowledge they might not otherwise have.

And somerimes they can clue an observer in to something that the acting-person is not consciously aware of.

I once clued someone into an emergency because I took my coat with me - and this was before I conciously realized the situation was an emergency instead of a minor proble. (No-one died.)

Now, not wearing appropriate protective gear in dangerous situations is just a bad idea. Wear your protective helmets to pistol duels and construction zones, folks!

A cop talking about their retirement plans. A soldier talking about plans for when they get out of the service. A hitherto unmentioned pregnant spouse and adorable children. A real estate purchase/renovation. Seeing a child in danger. Unless it's Age of Ultron, in which case you can basically do all of these only to have the guy who's been working your last nerve for literally the entire movie take a bullet for you. I mean, Hawkeye actually bought an actual facts farm for crying out loud! :)
