Good news includes all the things which make us happy or otherwise feel good. It can be personal or public. We never know when something wonderful will happen, and when it does, most people want to share it with someone. It's disappointing when nobody is there to appreciate it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our joys and pat each other on the back.

What good news have you had recently? Are you anticipating any more? Have you found a cute picture or a video that makes you smile? Is there anything your online friends could do to make your life a little happier?

I dunno if this counts as good news or not... but my neighbor injured herself moving a paving slab, gashing her shin open.

Not only did I have exactly the right medical supplies to apply first aid, but between my neighbor the other way, and myself, we had her taxi fee to and back from the hospital covered. (not that she ended up going as they were able to treat her on site.)

The EMT said I'd banaged her leg up rather professionally, so getting that merit badge in the boy scouts all those years ago was worth it.

That is good news

I'm very happy that you were prepared for someone else's emergency, AND willing to help. That's increasingly rare, I've found.

Well you know, life is shit and we're all in it together. Might as well help where possible.

THis is why I always try to learn as many diverse skills as I can- from first aid for injured or ailing humans to how to get my car started, to how to sew on a button. You can never tell when a given skill might come in handy.

Well, the outcome was better than if you hadn't been count and it seems like the interation involved positive feelings, so I'd say it can count.

Does this mean Neighbor would have taken a taxicab to the hospital instead of the ambulance?

I am American, and we might do that because of cost, but I thought such things were more affordable on your side of the Atlantic?

I once drove someone to the hospital, and the bandage job on their hand was complimented by the ER folks. (Person who bandaged it was a nurse, but credited that skill to the Scouts.)

Regarding taxi.. it depends... see, local area is technically covered by two possible hospitals. The ambulance/paramedics had clearance to take to Pinderfields, which is the main hospital, but the smaller regional one in Pontefract could've also treated her, but she would've had to 'self- present'.. i.e get herself there.

Ride back was iffy. Pinders might have booked her a taxi and paid for it themselves, they might not have. Ponte definitely wouldn't.

As it was, she waited at home until one of the other paramedics who had a medium wounds certification had finished at his job in South Elmsall (which is just 20 mins from here) and could treat her at home... which worked out quicker and a lot more comfortable than waiting to be seen by someone at the hospital.

Ambulance rides are free, but they're usually reserved for urgent cases, and free patient transport which is for non-urgent cases only operates during office hours. (you can blame admin cost cutting for that)

Thanks for the explanation.

Around here, an Uber/taxi might be cheaper than the ambulance ride. Even with insurance. [Rolls eyes at medical establishment.]

So 'cab fare for hospital' would either mean a less-urgent problem or can't afford the ambulance bill.

And I agree that waiting in the ER is a real nuisance. Though waiting is, admittedly, better than the alternative.

Yup... nobody wants to be fast-tracked through ER!

That said, it's about £20 from here to there, via taxi, and currently the buses are on strike so... Ambulances are free of course. Thank you NHS. Just the non-urgent ones to go back home are only available during office hours.

I keep running acrosss people giving Tarot readings or astrological readings on YouTube, and all the ones for Saggitarius say "your luck is about to change for the better", "expect a windfall very soon", "have confidence in your skills", and "there's someone who's obsessed with you (not that I want that!) and "blessings and abundance will come your way". Now, I have no reason to believe in any of them, but some material abundance would be awfully helpful.

If you have pets, go walk around the kitchen shaking a treat tin...certain parties will follow you very obsessively!

I don't have any pets. There are feral cats who live on my property, but someone else feeds them. I am quite happily monogamously married to a man who treats me wonderfully, and I don't need an obsessed stalker. (Of course, anybody who walks past me with a platter of bacon will have a problem.)I'm just waiting for the material windfall, and the dramatic change in my luck. I'm waiting for physical healing. Why should I believe some teenager with a tarot deck and a YouTube channel?

The last part of season 2 of The Owl House is out as of yesterday. It's one of my fav shows that has come out lately, with lots of found family, wholesome queer characters, including a lesbian romance & a romance with a non binary character. Oh and there is also characters with a chronic illness & trauma who we see treated like as actual conditions to be helped and not swept under the rug. I really recommend it. It's on disney plus is the only downside.

I second the recommendation, and will add that it is one of the few youth fantasy series-es I've seem where the adults routinely try to protect the kids (except a few villans). And they have a very positive portrayal of adoptive and found families.

There are some episodes on YouTube, which is where I've seen it.
