I took some pictures of my yard today.  Read about what makes a good wildlife yard and Fieldhaven as habitat.

The larger brush pile is still sitting under the mulberry tree.
This is the large brushpile under the mulberry tree.

This brushpile has been substantially reduced.  It's less than half this size because we stuffed a bunch in the dumpster this evening and made a bonfire.
This is a wide view of the yard.

This is the goldenraintree.

It's blooming now, very pretty.

The logs left dead patches in the grass.  This can be caused by heat, pressure, toxins, or blocking the sunlight.
The walnut logs left behind dead spots.

These are my log pots.  I filled the holes with potting soil and sowed petunia seeds.  No idea if anything will sprout; previously I have done this with potted plants.
These are my rotten log flowerpots.

This is the big log from the base of the fallen tree.

These are some of the older logs in the pile.

The plum tree fruited for the first time this year. Sadly the plums have split from all the rain.

The morning glories are starting to bud.

The blackberry lilies are budding too.

This is the yard side of the forest garden near the kitchen window. It is shady and shrubby, wetter than the rest of the yard because of outflow from the sump pump.

Here is the container garden on the picnic table.

This is the purple and white garden.

Here is a closeup of the ground. This is what I mean when I saw "lawn" -- whatever low-growing green stuff survives mowing and foot traffic. In a few square feet you can see several types of grass, at least two plantains, clover, violets, and various other things. The south lot is very popular. Bees and butterflies visit the flower. Rabbits graze on grass and clover. Owls perch on the high branches to watch for prey. Songbirds nest in the hedge.
This closeup shows several types of grass, two plantains, clover, and violet.

This is the septic garden.

This cypress vine is growing in the septic garden. It's one of several.

Cypress vine is sprouting around the support wire. Again. Things keep eating it, I keep planting more.

Amazingly the crabapple seedling leafed out. Some of these are tough little fuckers. I checked the privets but they show no signs of life.

This is the mowed patch where I sowed big bluestem grass seed. The blades of grass visible are probably from previous roots, not the bluestem. It takes a long time to appear. Like next year.

This is the hazel bush.

These are hazelnuts. They're not very impressive ones, with hard shells and small nuts, but the critters haven't complained.

This is the wildflower garden. It's just starting to come into its summer glory, but not all the way there yet.

The bee tree is busy today. I saw dozens of bees to-ing and fro-ing. :D Fly, my pretties, fly!

My sunchokes are growing well. There are quite a few of these here.

Several milkweeds are growing.

This shasta daisy is blooming. I was surprised to see it. Part of the fun to wild gardening is that you never know what you will find, what survived from previous plantings or volunteered itself, suddenly bursting into bloom.

The mossy yard is between the wild black cherry patch and the ritual meadow. There is very little grass here, just a few blades. It's mostly moss and occasional violets. Early in spring, a lot of snowdrops bloom in through here. I didn't plant them. They must have wandered in from other flowerbeds.
