We have almost reached the end of January! \o/ By now, most New Year's resolutions that are going to hit roadblocks or fail completely have already done so. About 95% crash and burn before the end of January. If you're still going, you've passed the roughest part. If you're having trouble or you've given up, there are options.

These are the previous check in posts:
* January 7
* January 15
* January 21

These are some previous posts on other aspects of New Year's resolutions.

Your Resolutions

How many New Year's resolutions did you make? How many succeeded? Failed? Ongoing because their timeframe is longer than one month? Did you make any changes? Add, drop, or modify goals? If so, how did that work out for you? How do you feel about your 2022 goals so far?

Remember that your goals belong to you. If they aren't working, you can fix them, or abandon one and replace it with something else. Don't beat up on yourself because the first thing you tried didn't work out perfectly. Just trying new things is a useful life experience that puts you ahead of where you were before you started. You can always try again another day. Even failure is useful information that helps you set better goals in the future. If you succeeded way beyond the goal, consider a more challenging one next time.

Why You Should Start Your New Year in February

My Resolutions

Here are my goals for 2022. See last week's post for my earlier accomplishments.

Completed total (10)
Out of 40 goals, I completed 10, which is one quarter of them. Some cannot be completed until later (like running the Rose and Bay Awards) or the end of the year (a lot).

Completed in the past week (4):

* Fill in desk calendar with repeating posts and other memoranda by the end of January. [MET Begun 1/19/21, finished 1/28/22]

* Sell at least one poem of 50+ lines, eligible for the Rhysling Award long category. [MET "Words on Walls" 1/9/22]

* Clean the window prisms. [MET 1/5/22]

* Rehang misplaced window prisms. [MET 1/10/22]

* Make a post about my previous writings on death. [MET 1/2/22]

* When posting for Moment of Silence, include "carry on the work" suggestions based on each person's activities. [MET 1/9/22, 1/14/22]

* Finish at least two catalog orders for spring plants by the end of February. Orders sent in March or later do not count. [MET 1/17/22 ordered Monarch Butterfly Wildflower Seed Mix from American Meadows and Bee Lawn Mix from Open Seeds.]

* Organize at least one area that is currently a mess. [MET 1/19/22 removed some of the junk in front of the washer and dryer]
- Shrink book stack in front of printer?

* Start a memory book for my mother, who passed away on 12/26/21. Use a black 3-ring binder with an assortment of black and hippie-themed scrapbook supplies. [MET ordered scrapbook papers 1/28/22]

Begun total (16) (most of these cannot be finished quickly)

Begun in the past week (0)

Out of 40 goals, I have begun but not completed 15 of them, which is close to half. Some, like most of the yardwork, cannot be started until later. I finished the desk calendar.

* Actually look at this list of goals, at least twice a month, before the end of the year in hopes of meeting more of them and not trying to cram in December. [1/3/22, 1/5/22, 1/7/22, 1/10/22, 1/16/22, 1/17/22, 1/21/22, 1/22/22, 1/23/22, 1/24/22, 1/25/22, 1/28/22 ]

* Fill in desk calendar with repeating posts and other memoranda by the end of January. [MET Begun 1/19/21, finished 1/28/22]

* Continue holding one Poetry Fishbowl per month. [Short Forms 1/4/22]

* Participate in at least six bingo fests. [Begun 12/23/21 with Story Sparks Fest for January]

* Participate in the [community profile] snowflake_challenge. [Begun 1/1/22]

* Run the Rose & Bay Awards for 2022. [Begun 1/1/22]

* Finish spending holiday money by the end of January. [Mine done 1/9/22]

* Put some bee plants in the prairie garden for the honeybees in the bee tree. [Begun 1/17/22 ordered Monarch Butterfly Wildflower Seed Mix (also bee-friendly) from American Meadows and Bee Lawn Mix from Open Seeds.]

* Keep track of my crowdfunding activity as the year goes on. [Begun 1/9/22]

* Keep track of things I would like to receive as gifts. [Begun 1/9/22]

* Read at least four cookbooks, marking recipes of interest. [Taste of Home 5 Ingredient Comfort Food 1/8/22]

* Make at least one new recipe per month. [ * mango coconut smoothie 1/7/22, ]
* Quite good, ** Made 2+ times

* Try at least one new cooking ingredient. [Ordered Itty Bitters and Blood Orange Syrup 1/9/22]

* Bullet journal family activities, aiming for at least one a week. [Begun 1/1/22]

* Bullet journal vegetable days. [Begun 1/1/22]

* Bullet journal watering plants weekly. [Begun 1/1/22]
* Continue with other griefwork. List any further activities under this goal. [MET 1/23/22 made shrine in library room, My Mother Read Me The Hobbit When I Was Four 1/25/22]

I'm still plugging along. It's going slow, but I'm still working on the house. I'm ahead of the game for my word goal for the year, which is great since you never know when you'll either slow down or something happens. And I'm on target for my book reading goal I was hoping to be ahead on that, but the last book I was reading was slow going. I think that is the list. Knowing that the house was absolutely necessary, I think that was the goal list for the year. I should look and make sure I'm not forgetting something.

I did forget something, actually 2 things. I've been thinking my work count goal was higher than it was, but I'm going ahead with what I thought it was. I may have typed it wrong. And I forgot about the Sudoku, probably because I've been doing it multiple times a day automatically since I got in the habit last year. I'm finding that it's true that if you develop a habit that it sticks.

The looking at your list goal is very smart instead of relying on memory. It's too much like trying to remember what to get at the grocery when you don't have a grocery list. You don't know how often I've had to order groceries more than once in one day, because when I noticed that I needed something and didn't put it on a list.

I've been doing a pretty good job of developing habits from my goal list . Now if I can only learn to time manage. I used to be good at it and that seems to have disappeared from my skill set lately.

Health-related goals are going fairly well. Sleep is still a problem, but I have some thoughts on how to make headway there.

Planning to add a reading goal starting in February. I have a number of books that I haven’t read in decades - one a week should bring me through the end of June.

More things to be started as the year goes on, but for now, baby steps.
