Birdfeeding

Today is cloudy and cold.
I fed the birds. Not much activity today; I've only seen a few sparrows.
My Bee Lawn Mix from Open Seeds has arrived. :D
EDIT 1/24/22 -- After lunch, the feeder is much more active: a large flock of sparrows, a flock of mourning doves, at least 3 cardinals, and a squirrel.

Date: 2022-01-25 05:40 am (UTC)I keep my smaller feeder in the front yard, and can watch that one. I found there's a cardinal family that are regulars, and a red-bellied woodpecker. Have not seen the woodpecker for a few days, am hoping it is okay and maybe it just moved on.
Latest 'new' bird i've seen a few times is a little Carolina Wren. They're cute - tiny and a few shades of brown with no neck and a jaunty tail that sticks up at an angle.

I have a hopper feeder, a thistle sock, and a metal tray feeder in the forest garden by the kitchen window. There's a fly-through feeder along the side of the house. Sometimes I put out a suet feeder, but it just hasn't been that cold this year, and also I haven't seen any of the woodpeckers recently.

See if you can offer them some shelter. Here we have evergreens and brush piles. But when it's cold, I often see flocks of sparrows or doves huddling on the south porch. They perch on the windowsills and whatever is piled back there, because it's sheltered on two sides and facing south.

Often birds move around, especially in town where there are different yards to explore.

Yeah, we have those too. Cheeky little things. One landed on me once and sang a song, then flew up to my hat and sang again, then flew to a nearby bush and sang yet another song. :D I am a throne of birds.
