It sort of does that. I do it for notes sometimes. But it's really awkward for longer things; I can't see what it's supposed to look like. So what I did instead was paste something into the LiveJournal post maker, which still works normally, then copy the formatted material to DW. It wastes time and energy, but less so than working offline or in HTML mode.
