Walking speed varies. The range for moderate intensity activity is 2.5 to 4 miles per hour (mph). A moderate pace is 2.5 to 3.5 mph, while a brisk pace is 3.5 to 4 mph.
Stan's house is near South 15th Street and William Street (use 1502 S William as a reference). That's about 2 blocks west and 12 blocks south of Gene Leahy Mall (use 1401 Farnam St as a reference), or just under 1 mile diagonally. At a brisk walk it would only take about 15 minutes to get from at a fast walk to go from the southwest corner of the Mall (South 14th Street and Farnam Street, use 1401 Farnam St as a reference) to Stan's house. Due to all the chaos, it takes them over an hour to make their way there. They go to Stan's house instead of Lawrence's (which is closer to the park) because they expect Stan's parents to be home but not Lawrence's mother.
