Canada has a variety of draft horses, though fewer than in the past. The Kainai Nation has several people with Percheron herds. The Piikani Nation has one herd of Clydesdales. The Siksika Nation has two herds of Belgians.

Dark Moon is a yearling colt Percheron from Canada. These two Percheron mares are Dream On and Beautiful Dreamer. Dream On (left) is lighter, a year older than her sister Beautiful Dreamer (right). Percheron stallion Paul Bunyan is a bay snowcap appaloosa.

Horse breeds vary widely. Ideally, horses should be similar in size and weight for safest mating, but sometimes people want to bring in new traits, so they cross very different horses. It's risky for a larger stallion to cover a smaller mare, but it can work if the difference isn't too wide. A smaller stallion covering a larger mare is safer, but he may need help getting up there. Coldbloods (draft horses) are often crossed with warmbloods (riding and workhorses), sometimes even with hotbloods (racehorses) to create a more balanced foal.

Horses breed seasonally, peaking in spring. However, mares who do not conceive a foal during the spring-summer breeding season may cycle persistently in fall and conceive then.

Sweet Coffee is a Quarter Horse / Percheron cross. Her frosted coat, mostly white face, and distinctly striped mane mark her as a varnish roan appaloosa.

Heads-or-Tails is an Icelandic yearling colt.

Cashmere goats are popular in Canada for their warm wool.

Blanket courtship has appeared in various tribes, mostly on the plains. Two people snuggle under a blanket in public. Everyone ignores them unless something goes wrong.
