Meet the Freedge, a source of free perishables. Community refrigerators are the newest form of Little Free Pantry, skyrocketing in popularity over the last year or so. Date: 2021-06-29 03:33 am (UTC)As climate change progresses, things that used to be safe or only a little risky will become more often deadly. Things that would help keep more people alive include:
* widespread availability of cold drinks, including water and electrolyte drinks
* air-conditioned refuges
* free or subsidized air conditioning
* requirements for schools and workplaces to have air conditioning and maintain safe temperatures
* bans on clothing requirements (e.g. uniforms with long pants, black cloth) that contribute to overheating
* bans on making people work in hot conditions
* making employers liable as a "presumed cause" of environmental injuries (that is, if you worked in the hot sun and your kidneys died, you don't have to prove anything; it's automatically considered your employer's fault)
* alternative building types such as cob and earthberms that contribute to comfortable temperatures
