The tree guys came out today. They cut off the rotten part of the trunk and shifted it to the pile of rotten logs. The cut the trunk and branches into firewood and stacked it, which will need to be moved later. The twigs and leaves are piled to the side and will need to be removed, since walnut has toxins hostile to many other plants. But the yard is mostly clear now, so that's a big improvement. Also some of the branches on the goldenraintree were merely bent, not broken, so it didn't lose as much canopy as I expected. Yay, progress!
