Poem: "Secret of All Triumphs"

This poem is spillover from the April 6, 2021 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from
janetmiles and
siliconshaman. It also fills the "Nature" square in my 4-4-21 "Aspects" card for the Genderplay Bingo fest. This poem has been sponsored by
janetmiles.
"Secret of All Triumphs"
On Mars, the new rover
surveys its domain.
One rock stands out
from the rest, pale and
pitted with peculiar holes.
It glistens even under
the ever-present dust,
its surface polished by
some unknown forces.
Nature is filled with mysteries.
For now, nobody knows where
that odd rock has come from.
It could have weathered
out of the local bedrock,
washed in an ancient flood,
or come from a far-flung
impact event on Mars.
It might be a meteorite,
fallen from the asteroid belt --
or even from distant Earth.
Imagine the scattered planets
throwing rocks back and forth
through space, like students
passing notes in class.
The answer to the riddle
lies in Perseverance,
secret of all triumphs.

Notes:
"Perseverance, secret of all triumphs."
-- Victor Hugo
The Perseverance rover has found an unusual rock on Mars.

Given that Mars probably had a potentially viable environment for life to evolve in, way before Earth did. [it cooled faster] Who knows, maybe life originated on Mars... and we're all Martians really.
