Good news includes all the things which make us happy or otherwise feel good. It can be personal or public. We never know when something wonderful will happen, and when it does, most people want to share it with someone. It's disappointing when nobody is there to appreciate it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our joys and pat each other on the back.
What good news have you had recently? Are you anticipating any more? Have you found a cute picture or a video that makes you smile? Is there anything your online friends could do to make your life a little happier?

This makes me smile.

Date: 2021-01-27 08:31 pm (UTC)I was excited. Now it's just...
Like, everything is falling into place. Why the hell do I still feel like everything's falling apart, and feel so blah now? Earlier today I was in a good mood. Now it's just like, :Yeah job offers, okay so?"
...
I shouldn't have this sort of moodswing. It feels unnatural. :(
Re: Yay!
Date: 2021-01-27 09:16 pm (UTC)Most likely explanation: humans typically feel uprooted for a while before, during, and after a move or other major life change. This can be due to changes in diet and sleep, but also from the loss of routines. When you don't have familiar places, people, and actions around you then most or all decisions must be made from scratch. This is exhausting, which leaves you less energy for emotional regulation. Furthermore, good things and bad things tend to happen more often, closer together, with higher peaks and lower valleys than usual during major changes. This tends to make mood more labile in general, hence mood swings, sometimes moderate but other times pretty bad.
Possible solutions include:
* Create routines for as many things as you can. This may just be your morning and evening activities, but you might also be able to do things like set a day of the week to visit the post office or go shopping. Every decision you can stabilize is one less thing to rattle around your head bothering you.
* Use cognitive offloading, moving important bits from inside your head to outside devices such as calendars or timers. As above, the less rattling around in your skull, the calmer you will feel.
* Adaptogens help the body/mind cope with stresses of all kinds. I like Triple Leaf Decaf Green Tea with Ginseng, which is basically a big box of adaptogens. :D Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime and Tension Tamer are two other teas I keep for soothing stress. Green Tea is the daytime blend and the other two are nighttime ones.
* Eat foods with mood-boosting or calming qualities. There are even foods to buffer mood swings. While the standard advice is to choose brightly colored foods, vision-impaired diners may get better results from eating fragrant foods or those with favorite textures, so think about what you like in these areas. Use aromatics to enhance the smell and taste of foods. If you aren't cooking for yourself, simply copy these lists and request or order dishes that include the things you want to eat.
* When your mood begins to swing beyond what you consider normal-for-your or reasonable-under-the-circumstances, then stop trying to do other things and concentrate on emotional regulation. (If other people harass you for doing this, they are being abusive.) Use coping skills to bring yourself back toward a calmer center. Things that focus on touch, smell, or sound should help so hunt for resources featuring those. Consider assembling an emotional first aid kit so you don't have to search for things while you feel like crap.
In your case, since you are not fully human, other factors may be at play; and sense there are more than one of you involved, emotional slosh while switching front is another possibility. A head meeting might help figure out whether these are also affecting you, if so how, and what could be done about them.
>> I shouldn't have this sort of moodswing. It feels unnatural. :(
It feels unnatural, because it is unfamiliar and not how you typically feel. However, it is totally normal for humans to have mood swings -- sometimes really bad ones -- during major changes. It would be more surprising if you didn't feel this way, although there's nothing wrong with that either. Some folks quickly tire of places and love moving.
What you are feeling now may be uncomfortable and disorienting, but it is not abnormal and it will not last forever. The worst usually lasts about a month after the move, and after a year, things should have settled into a new routine. You can speed the process by taking care of yourself and deliberately working to build new routines so your brain doesn't have to stay in "new things mode" for so long.

Ysabet, I hve 0 money to spend on *anything* until afer Feb 17 or so, or until we pay off the lawyers, and I have neither of the teas you mentioned.
I have not, however, looked at the foods you linked to, so those still might be options.
If you have suggestions on DIY drinks that you can make with various spices, etc, I can do, that would be fantastic. (I have a microwave hot cocolate, for instance, that I make all the time, and it makes me feel better on cold nights without providing me with too much caffine. :d)
Thank you for thse, they'll come in very handy. <<3

Date: 2021-01-28 12:19 am (UTC)Move out of your old place, yes, but you mentioned not being finished with all the condo stuff yet. Have you moved back into the condo yet or are you still staying with family? Even if you're back in the condo, with all the financial stuff wrangling around, that's enough to make things feel unstable.

Bummer. Some of the coping skills and emotional regulation don't cost, if you use DIY methods rather than seeking a therapist.

Date: 2021-01-28 12:55 am (UTC)I've been in the condo since December 12th, stayed here through all the repair work, with the sister in law in and out to help, and the brother, too; both have been gon for about a week now. I'd not stayed with family during any of the repairs.
She's basically the one that's been like 'nope, no spending untiol goal is met.' including having me get rid of things like audible/Serius XM which I use on the daily. With the reason f 'it's only temporary'. ... Which, OK facts, but it doesn't feel temporary when those are what keep you sane most days.

I'm sorry that your family is abusive and manipulative.

The personal touch with the DJ's is nice, though, y'know?

Re: Yay!
Date: 2021-01-28 09:43 am (UTC)The one valid point they have is that subscriptions add up fast. A lot of modern things aren't bought, they have to be paid for over time. That runs up the household expenses and can cause problems.
That still doesn't make it okay for other people to harass you about your budget.
Re: Yay!
Date: 2021-01-28 01:27 pm (UTC)Yeah well, it doesn't help that one of the harrassers happens to be FPOA. So there's that.

Date: 2021-01-29 05:21 am (UTC)Something to consider for future reference: You could always move out of their reach, if what you want most is the freedom to make your own choices, reap the benefits or consequences of them, and learn either way. There are some towns with blind-friendly features that would probably be a better bet than somewhere random. Or hell, there are places that teach blindskills, you could pick one and learn more about independence. They probably all have scholarships, since most people with disabilities are broke.

Mind you, I have trouble with eye contact as well - if I have to think really hard, I cannot be looking someone in the eyes (as it's too distracting).

>> I passed History of the American Civil Rights Movement A and Thanatology exams last week.<<
I'm just glad someone has thanatology classes. Most Americans know fuckall about the intricacies of death and dying, so it's botched more often than not.
I once had a doctor pester me about getting tests for heart disease despite the absence of any symptoms. He called it 'the silent killer.' I said, "Silent killer means a quick, clean death. What's not to like?" He was stunned. Clearly he'd never had any training in how to discern between better and worse deaths. Which is exactly how people wind up getting tortured to death for the last few years. >_<
