Germany has made its countryside so inhospitable to wildlife that rabbits are struggling to survive. So the rabbits, like humans, are moving to the cities where it is easier for them to live.
Rabbits, raccoons, foxes, coyotes....they're all living comfortably around here in town. Heck, we have a couple of rabbits that have mostly figured out when I go outside in the morning to go to work I'm not going to "chase" them unless they are on the sidewalk or driveway. It's a bit like dealing with your average city squirrel.
We don't spray our yard for weeds so there's clover, strawberries, dandelions, violets and grass to eat all year. And a couple of those big old box hedges from the 80s at the front of the house they can hide under.
Coyotes are what I'm a bit concerned about in the long term. We don't need the problem California and other places are having where they are actively hunting pets and jumping into people's yards to get them. I guess there are enough hunters around here that they are still a bit wary of people. Even the ones living in town.
