Lammas Ritual

Today we went to a Lammas ritual.  One of our covenmates has a big yard with a corn crib.  It has a roof, floor, and two slatted walls but is otherwise open.  So this was our first time using that as a ritual space.

We called quarters with four different grains, and cast the circle with nonalcoholic beer.  It was really nice to have sheltered outdoor space to do messy stuff like that.  We invoked several harvest deities.  We did some chants.  We shared beer and bread.

Then we went indoors for the feast.  That included chicken with rice and seeded wheat bread.  We brought a jello mold for our contribution.  Other folks brought peach cobbler, bread pudding, and buttermilk pie. \o/

We had a lot of fun.

We did our yearly Music Under the Trees, which passes for a Lammas ritual for me... there were Faeries and Witches and Jews and Mormons and Christians and Druids, Oh My.... and a representative of the Church of the Great Pumpkin, and probably at least one Pastafarian... and a Salad of Doom and pasta and three kinds of sauce and awesome desserts including a Rhubarb Floof made by our resident superhera...

Our resident Junior Bard topped their perfomance last year - they had just lost their bestie last year, and they sang a cover song in memoriam and did not lose it... this year? They sang _their own song_ in memory, and not only did not lose it, but had enough left to _nail_ something a capella immediately afterwards "because I'm not leaving you on that note."

You coulda heard a pin drop. Even the breeze went still, now that I think about it.

Pure Finest Magick, No Shit. If that amazing young person ever puts their mind to it, they could own the world by sheer musical talent.

It was a very good day.

We are all very enamored of our new ritual site. :D That yard also has a couple of big old oak trees, and is bounded by a river at the very distant end. We have ideas for future developments. \o/

One idea we came up with last night was chipping in to buy a firepot for the corn crib. It's not good for concrete to build a fire on it, but there are now firepots made for use on decks which do not transmit heat downward.
