With lenses of glass or similar material, which means Shiv could grip that to pull it off.<<<

Actually it occurs to me that Shiv could grow a "barbed thorn" sort of extrusion on the cartridge and stab it into the mask or hoses.

Get the whole cartridge dumped into the mask. If that doesn't disable the the guy...
