Poem: "A Needful Thing"

This poem came out of the July 2, 2019 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired and sponsored by Anthony Barrette. It also fills the "Silver and Gold" square in my 7-1-19 card for the Winterfest in July Bingo.
Warning: contains politics.
"A Needful Thing"
It's easy to get distracted
by silver and gold,
the wink and gleam
of untold wealth.
It's easy to think that
power means you can
grab whatever you want,
even if it doesn't belong to you.
Just because something is easy,
doesn't necessarily make it true.
Respect is a needful thing
for even a powerful man to acquire.
Donald Trump sees only the respect
that he craves for people to give him,
and not the respect that he himself
owes to other people in turn.
Without a degree of mutual respect,
there is no deal; and without
a deal, nothing gets done.
When nothing gets done,
there is no greatness.
Warning: contains politics.
