This poem came out of the December 4, 2018 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from
chanter_greenie and Shirley Barrette. It has been sponsored by Anthony & Shirley Barrette. This poem belongs to the Schrodinger's Heroes project.
"Batting Around"
Evil!Schrodinger loves
batting around ideas.
He loves making things happen,
because he gets bored easily.
He has been offered jobs,
in some dimensions, but he always
flirts his tail and walks away:
work would be boring.
He loves math and science
and all kinds of inventions,
but most of all, he loves the Multiverse.
It's big and it's intricate and it moves
when he barely taps it with a paw.
He knows, he knows,
that this annoys other people,
but he is a cat, and does not care.
There are other cats, of course,
and some of them do care.
There is the black burden
of his shadow!self, forever
getting in the way of his fun.
There is the strange gray
who takes no sides, for
all morals are alike to him.
There is even a tortoiseshell
that once raced evil!Schrodinger
on a madcap dash through dimensions,
the Multiverse wheeling and spinning,
its facets flashing like fish scales.
He still thinks of that caper
with great fondness, even though
he lost the race in the end.
It does not matter.
The Multiverse is still there;
it always has been, and
it always will be.
Even Entropy's claws
cannot shred it.
Evil!Schrodinger
loves the Multiverse
as he loves nothing else
in all of existence.
It's so shiny.
It jingles when it moves.
He just can't stop batting it around.

Notes:
Cats have strong predatorial instincts, as shown in kittens playing with balls.
People typically think of the shadow as "dark" or even "evil." It's not. It's the counterpoint to the conscious self. It holds not only the primal instincts, but whatever a person tries to push down and hide away. Therefore, an evil character who lets their dark impulses run rampant will have a shadow made of all the good impulses they try to deny. This is why good!Schrodinger and evil!Schrodinger are mirror twins.
