Poor Shiv. And of course the Finns are doing EXACTLY what needs doing, validating Shiv's feelings and working through what will un-trigger him...
If I was a Finn, I would go and get a few bags of cranberries and a large bag of cheap-ass (unpopped) popcorn. Run the latter through an air popper. Now find a needle (HI SHIV!) and some strong thread... Presto! 18th century garland! (Done it! it's fun.) Best of all? It WON'T BREAK if you drop it...
Now, there IS a potential for a dropped needle (one of MY favourite things *sarc-mark*)... but we've got a Shiv. Finding is easy. Piece of problem, no cake!

Sooth. So much of what he needs is for people to help him sort through his trashpile of a past, pitch out the worst of the garbage, keep what's useful, and develop coping techniques for challenges. Landing with a pair of veterans is one of the best things that's happened to him.

:D What an awesome idea. Shiv would probably love that, and it would make a great after-Christmas activity. You can hang the things outside for the birds. Feel free to prompt for that if you wish.
