Good point. Most people today have never even tasted real food. No wonder it's hard to get people to eat fruits and vegetables. The ones for sale are rarely worth eating. But you go to a farmer's market and find heirloom cultivars -- those are good.
I first came across this idea a few months ago and it's really depressing. In theory, you can escape the issue of depleted soil and badly bred plants by growing at least some of your own food, but there's no escaping the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.
