The Winterfaire spreads out as far as the eye can see. Some booths show streamers of red and green, while others sport blue and silver. All of them offer treasure after shining treasure. Music fills the air with lyrics of Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Solstice, and Yule. From the Wordsmith's Forge comes the bright chiming of words being hammered into literature. Delicious scents of hot chocolate, spiced cider, peppermint, baking cookies, and gingerbread tantalize the appetite. Smiling, laughing shoppers amble from booth to booth with lists in hand. Vendors grin back, calling out, "Come try, come buy...!"

I know a lot of artists, writers, musicians, crafters, and other talented folks who make some of their living from their creative endeavors. I don't always have the money to support them as much as I'd like, but what I can do is set up a virtual faire where vendors can offer their wares to an audience that likes crafts, literature, and small businesses. For those of you doing your holiday shopping, here's an opportunity to buy something made with love, something unusual or unique, in a way that helps make it possible for creative people to go on creating wonders. And there will be no traffic jams, stampedes, or gunfights at the Winterfaire!

Vendors: If you have goods or services suitable for holiday gifts, please put up a booth by replying with a description of what you sell, an estimate of your price range if possible, and some kind of contact information so shoppers can reach you. If you have a website (Etsy, DeviantArt, personal, whatever) showcasing your work in more detail, include the link(s). If you have holiday freebies, such as downloadable greeting card imagery, you're welcome to promote those too. For ease of identification, I recommend titling your reply starting with "BOOTH:" followed by the name of your business or type of goodies.

Shoppers: If you're looking for something specific and it's not posted yet, feel free to ask. Someone else may know where to find it! "SHOPPING FOR:" and the topic would be a good title.

Everyone: You may help promote the Winterfaire by linking to this post from your own blog or site. If you have a similar holiday-networking post, you may link to it in a comment on this post.

Participation Perk: I'm offering poetry for participation.  The following linkback poems still have verses available: "Dangerous Refuges" (now complete), "The Marble and the Sculptor" (now complete), "Leaves Upon the Water" (now complete) "Lead Us in Peace," "We Will Fade into You," "The Emulsification of Humankind" (now complete), "Gliding In" (now complete), and "The Open Gyre." Linking to this page will reveal new verses in whichever one you request. Because, you see, all of these activities will unlock a verse each time someone does them:
* link to this Winterfaire page to boost the signal
* comment posting a Booth of your wares/services in the Winterfaire
* buy something from a vendor listed in the Winterfaire
* host a similar holiday market in your own blog or other venue
Dreamwidth will notify me of comments to the Winterfaire post; for everything else, you need to TELL ME in order to get credit for it.

Get your Poems, Stories, and Cards!

From: [personal profile] bairnsidhe
Welcome, friend, to BairnSidhe's Bizarre Bazaar Bardic Bargains!

I'm a poet, a word-crafter, a feels-smith... A writer in short (only 5'5", in fact).

For your perusal, I offer my dreamwidth as a small sample of my goods. For easy purchase are several pre-made works, delightful for quick and easy purchase. I'll even dedicate them to the recipient of your choice upon posting.

If you wish something more personal, however, you may commission a piece. Costs vary, poems are often under $10.00 (USD) and stories can range from $20.00 and up, depending on length. I am perfectly willing to negotiate, haggle, and barter when it comes to commissioned work, feel free to message me directly on dreamwidth to discuss any purchase you wish to make.

Lastly, if you really must have something in-hand, I will fill a card with a short poem of the season or the holiday of your choice, and mail it to you, to give to the recipient. Card prices vary based on what style of card you want, although all are hand-made, and if you prefer a printed insert with the poem or hand-calligraphy. Average card price should be $5.00 (USD) although with custom orders it's possible to talk me into a lower price or splurge on glitter and fancy cardstocks.

Other custom word-and-paper arts (scrapbook pages, calendars, place setting name cards, party invites) can be arranged on a case-by-case basis, and vary widely in price, because of customization.

For those who buy paperback books on amazon

I have three I'd particularly recommend...
First of all, The Bohemian Girl and other stories is a collection of stories about the experiences of various Transsexuals dealing with their reality and life. The book is excellently written, and is strong enough to stand alone as what it is.

The Nothing That Is and other stories is a collection of 21 short stories featuring lesbian protagonists. These stories are solid and fairly traditional, although the situations presented and the characters we meet are less traditional. The resulting tension leads to surprises for the reader--pleasing, if not always pleasant, surprises."

Written in a style that is at once reminiscent of both Catch-22 and Twelve O'Clock High, But Soon It Will Be Night is an account of the Eighth Air Force's Mission 115, to Schweinfurt, on 14 October, 1943, as experienced by the men of the fictional 981st Bombardment Group.
"Stacy Danielle Stephens is that rare writer who pushes the limits of fiction, with a gut-level sincerity and an artist's attention to craft."

Hi [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith's readers!

For those of you who don't know me already, I'm Angela Korra'ti, a.k.a. 'Anna the Piper', and I'm a writer of urban fantasy and epic fantasy novels. The urban fantasy ones are indie-published, and are the Free Court of Seattle series, which I like to call my 'music, magic, and computer geekery' books. They are lighter-hearted urban fantasy, and any readers familiar with Tanya Huff (and in particular her Keeper books) or Esther Friesner may like my stuff too.

Book 1, Faerie Blood, and Book 2, Bone Walker, are available in both ebook and print form. The ebooks are on sale for 99 cents each until the end of this year. The print copies can be ordered directly from me on my Square store, and for the holidays, I will waive the shipping costs on mailing to folks.

The two books are available on all major ebook platforms, and you can also buy them directly from me.

More info at Faerie Blood's official page, Bone Walker's official page, and the Buying From Me page on my site.

Thanks to Elizabeth for putting this post up, and I'll signal boost it as well on my social media. :)

I specialize in jewelry inspired by STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Most of my jewelry incorporates numbers in beaded designs—irrational numbers, physical constants, etc.—but I also dabble a little in chainmaille versions of DNA double helices and gel electrophoresis imagery, and I even have fiber optic jewelry for the coders and computer scientists. Prices range from $15 - $100, so there's the everyday and there's the fancy. I also do custom work, from favorite irrational numbers to specific equations of water pressure.

If you'd like to give a high-quality paperback edition of a famous and well-loved work of fiction,
a title from the Flatwater Press Classics Library may be what you're looking for.

  • Around The World In Eighty Days
A reasonably priced high-quality edition of Jules Verne's most well-known work, which is a fantastic story in every sense of the word. Amazingly, Jules Verne actually says more about Nebraska and Omaha than any of the other places Phileas Fogg visits. For a European in the 1870s, Nebraska must have seemed like the most exotic place on earth.

  • Candide
A nicely-priced high-quality paperback edition of Voltaire's classic work, which set the standard for political satire and ironic social commentary.

  • Heart Of Darkness
The Flatwater Press edition of Heart of Darkness includes an introduction by Gustavo Bondoni as well as the 1917 essay, "Joseph Conrad," by H.L. Mencken.

  • The Hoosier School-Master
. . . pictures the country school in which custom prescribed a constant warfare between the master and the big boys, the community spelling-school, the different forms of bigoted and illiterate preaching that were offered to the new settlers, the amusing attempts at formality in the proceedings of the courts, and other features of pioneer life as the author had seen them. . . . There is a great variety of characters who, while they are drawn pretty much in unshaded black and white, have enough truth to human nature to seem real. A sufficient humor pervades the whole, the action never drags and the book. . . deserves the great vogue it has had since its publication in 1871. -William B. Cairns; The Encyclopedia Americana (1920)
This is a high-quality edition of Edward Eggleston's classic ground-breaking first novel, with an Introduction by Gustavo Bondoni, author of Seige and Incursion: Shock Marines.

  • Pride And Prejudice
Although she was neither widely known nor widely read until well into the Twentieth Century, Jane Austen had successfully published four novels in her lifetime. Two additional novels were published shortly after her death. Flatwater Press is pleased to present this nicely-priced high-quality edition of her most famous work.

  • The Song Of The Lark (1915)
"The story of Thea Kronborg is great because it makes us believe in greatness. Miss Cather paints on a broad canvas crowded with figures. ...she makes whole communities pass before our eyes..."
    The American-Scandinavian Review (1916)
This high quality paperback edition is part of the Flatwater Press Classics Library.

    Chanter's scribbling

chanter1944: a house and road blanketed in snow (Wisconsin winter: buried in snay)
    From: [personal profile] chanter1944
One booth bedecked in blue and silver - royal blue, with silver tinsel twining its poles and designs of mostly bells and snowflakes scattered sparingly across its canvas, though that most definitely is a little Wisconsin flag as well - has a tray already on its front-facing table. Several stories and poems are ready-made, awaiting prospective customers underneath a protective screen.

From inside that booth drifts the scent of strong coffee, hot chocolate, ginger and clove, as well as the sound of a radio announcing the hour and minute in universal time, first in English, then in French--and did the station ID as Canadian, just then? The sign above the stall lists the owner as Chanter, and presumably, the named person and the long-haired woman in the blue cat-eared beanie and button-bedecked fleece currently running things are one and the same.

Chances are she's the one whose cross-country skis and accompanying poles are leaning against an out of the way support at the back, too.

The Starcat logo at the front of the booth glows with the magic of the Faire, as if it were a real constellation. Inside are tables with displays of stone and glass bead jewelry, inexpensive sterling-silver earrings and pendants, and also small gifts for the home: several sizes of mortar & pestle sets, tote bags, wooden boxes, a selection of carved stone animals, and beaded bookmarks. Tinsel garlands twined around the roof beams, strings of tiny LED lights, and glittery paper snowflakes add a festive air, and above one unobtrusive spot between two tables dangles a sprig of mistletoe.

Prices on the stone and glass jewelry range from $15 to $400, but most items are in the $20-to-$150 range. Most of the sterling-silver earrings and pendants are $20; some of the fancier pieces are $25 or $30. All gift items are $20 or less, except for the largest sizes of mortar & pestle sets and the herb-chest boxes.

Items are available for visual examination and purchase at the Starcat Designs website. On orders of $125 or more, shipping is free. I will happily answer questions either here or thru the website.

Note: I'm having a holiday sale! Items featured on the front page of the site are 15% off.

The Instant Attitudes booth is a little shabby and shopworn, although some attempts have been made to spruce it up a bit. Across the back is a hanging display of T-shirt designs, while the trays on the front table contain a wide variety of bumper stickers for customers to browse through. The proprietor, whose gender is ambiguous, looks tired, but is still making a valiant effort to keep up the seasonal cheer.

Instant Attitudes sells T-shirts and bumper stickers designed to appeal to a geeky and educated audience. Examples:
    - I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.
    - A mind needs books like a knife needs a whetstone, to maintain its edge.
    - They got the library at Alexandria - THEY'RE NOT GETTING MINE!
    - The Ways are many; the Light is one (with an array of religious symbols from around the world)
    - Steampunk means never having to ask, "Is this period?"
    - Alcohol and calculus don't mix. Never drink and derive.
    - I don't want to adult today. I don't even want to human. Today, I want to cat. (with line-art of sleeping kitty)

T-shirt price is $19 ($22 including shipping) for sizes S-XL; 2X and up slightly more (reflecting the price difference of the blank shirts). Sizes up to 5X are regularly available, and 6X is available by special order.

Bumper sticker prices start at $2.50, with price breaks at 3, 12, and 20 stickers. We sometimes get orders in which it's clear that the whole office, or the whole gaming group, has gone in on an order to get the bulk pricing.

The payment structure is... a little antiquated. There's no shopping cart, although there are PayPal purchase buttons on the T-shirts. For bumper stickers, we advise sending an e-mail with the list of what you want so that we can check availability; then we'll send you a total price with shipping and a PayPal link; we also accept checks and money orders by mail. If you live outside the US, please contact us about any order before sending payment -- international shipping costs are wildly variable.

I make things! I have linen napkins and kitchen towels (super absorbant, and very sturdy), along with mega-coasters (large enough to handle that giant mug you have from your local RenFaire), business card holders, grocery bag socks and....I got tired of my washer stinking so I started making laundry soap too!
