Oil Spills Kill Children

While it's hardly a surprise that toxins kill people, I am intrigued that the major impact falls on pregnancies that happen after the spill -- for years. Just in case you thought this wasn't your problem, here's a map of oil spills in America.

The one that saddened me the most was Flint, MI, where people are suspicious the lead has made infant mortality rates almost a 50% gamble. This isn't supposed to happen in a G7 nation!

Basically don't swim in, eat out of, or otherwise go near the Gulf Coast anymore -- which I said as soon as the spill happened, because duh, toxins persist in an ecosystem.

It's not just that. Lead is widely banned because it does brain damage. There are papers linking Flint's astronomic rates of mental disabilities and crime to lead poisoning. And no matter when people get around to fixing the pipes, if they ever do, the damage will persist at least for the lifespan of people currently affected.

America isn't a developed nation anymore, it's a third-world nation with a developed history. We have a corrupt government, a decrepit economy, and a medical system that leaves people standing in line for 12 hours at a traveling relief clinic.
