Rain, Rain, Rain

It started raining off and on yesterday, and is continuing to rain today.  The clouds are so thick that it looks dark outside.  I'm happy because we need the rain.

We have a pot of ham-and-beans cooking.  Today's project has been chipping up the rest of the leftover ham.  We'll use some of it for quiche and freeze the rest for later use in various dishes.

I heard a bluejay shrieking outside while I was working.  I got up to look for him through the windows but it's hard to see anything right now.  I did spot a male cardinal near the fly-through feeder.

Snow here. Not enough to cause problems yet, but...

Mmmmm, ham beans. I may have to do that this week. Hmmmm, that'll require cornbread. :D

OOOH. I don't know if I want to do it this time or not, but... U.S. Senate Navy Bean Soup... and I'm betting three hours in a pot on the stove translates to eight hours on low in a crock pot... That and with just me and a small pot, I'll probably have to halve the recipe, but hey.

I never was much on casserole qua casserole, but pot pie or soup? T'row me in dat Briar Patch!

Oh, I see. No centre hopper/partition like a lot of them.

Yes. We have a hopper feeder for the perching birds. The fly-through feeder appeals to ground feeders such as mourning doves and the larger birds who find the narrow rim of the hopper feeder less appealing. I haven't filled the suet cage yet. The new metal feeder has a dome with a little tray underneath.

Yeah, it's getting time for that, though.

Sadly, no woodpeckers around here close... though I have seen/heard a Pileated over on the Peninsula...

I've had seed in mine for a month. Usually if I wait until October I don't get as many birds. But this year they're just ignoring it. >_
