Pirate Fest Bingo Card 9-1-17
Sep. 1st, 2017 05:19 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
This is my card for the Pirate Fest Bingo. Since September 19 is Talk Like a Pirate Day, the theme for this month's fest is piracy! It runs September 1-30. (See all my 2017 bingo cards.)
For further inspiration:
Kraken is a supervillain organization in Polychrome Heroics. Their secret subsidiaries include Triton Teen Centers and X Marks the Spot (GPS equipment including locative jewelry). Capricorn is one of their leaders.
Others in Polychrome Heroics: I have a character who shapeshifts into a Narwhal; she's part of the Hand of Sedna. Gráinne Nuala is an immortal pirate queen. The Devil Whale is one of Steel's nicknames. Compass rose is one of several popular designs used to mark a teleport landing pad.
Act of Pardon is one of the things that will happen in the Maldives after Kraken reveals themselves in Contingency X. The President offers amnesty to people who want to stop being supervillains and find something more constructive and legal to do.
The Inkseer uses kraken ink for powerful scrying.
The Ocracies include a variety of coastal and seafaring cultures.
If you'd like to sponsor a particular square, especially if you have an idea for what character, series, or situation it would fit -- talk to me and we'll work something out. I've had a few requests for this and the results have been awesome so far. This is a good opportunity for those of you with favorites that don't always mesh well with the themes of my monthly projects. I may still post some of the fills for free, because I'm using this to attract new readers; but if it brings in money, that means I can do more of it. That's part of why I'm crossing some of the bingo prompts with other projects, such as the Poetry Fishbowl.
Underlined prompts have been filled.

No surprise here

Date: 2017-09-03 01:39 am (UTC):D That's what I was thinking, yes.
>>Does Boss White (that is his boss, right?) <<
Right.
>> ever tangle with pirates attacking his revenue stream? <<
Probably not, because they're in Omaha. Loosely translated, however, terrestrial bandits are quite possible. Stupid for a band to take on the gang that holds the city, but you never know.
Re: No surprise here
Date: 2017-09-03 07:13 am (UTC)Perhaps, but check this out (:<)X And the Missouri River is comparably sized, and more likely to be navigable year-round.
>> Stupid for a band to take on the gang that holds the city <<
Well, as the saying goes, if they were smart enough to figure out how to make an honest living, they wouldn't be crooks. Events in L-Earth tend to confirm this regularly. Terramagne rates to be similar. Plus, someone out there probably has a grudge.
Re: No surprise here

Okay, I looked it up and it's plausible. The Missouri and the Platte are shipping rivers at least to some extent, barge traffic is up in L-Nebraska, and T-America does more with water shipping because it's more sustainable than trucking.
Add in the fact that Terramagne has things like teleporters, weather workers, and super-gizmology to assist piracy and it could work.
Feel free to prompt for this on Tuesday if you can think of how to work it in with family. Hmm, it'll need a long jump ahead, though, because Boss White isn't letting Shiv back in the field until after the six-month mark, which is in February. Come spring, though, it's an option.

Good points.

Date: 2017-09-05 10:10 pm (UTC)Cool! Guess the impoundments and reservoirs have upgraded "Ol' Misery" from its Mark Twain-era description of "too thick to drink, too thin to plow". Not sure what Boss White might be shipping by water, but I bet there's some stuff that would be better moved that way.

Well, pirate bands and gangs are both families of choice, and being accepted into either means a lot and is hard to escape. But...
>> Boss White isn't letting Shiv back in the field until after the six-month mark, which is in February. <<
That's what he'd like, but if something comes up that Shiv's talents would be a big help in handling, Boss White seems astute enough to change his mind.
Tell you what -- if this would help you make a bingo on the Pirate Fest card, go ahead and ask Shiv whether he's up to the challenge. Otherwise, let's wait until next year and follow it then.
