I count this as a long-delayed WWII victory.

I think I know what you mean, but that strikes me as seriously downplaying the courage, activism, and stubbornness of LGBT Germans who actually achieved this. And, of course, also overlooks the fact that while the Allies may have been less dreadful on gay rights than the Nazis, that was only because that was such a low bar to clear, and the fact that you played a key part in winning the damn war wouldn't save you from humiliation and persecution for being gay (case in point: Alan Turing).

For whom, exactly?

WWII wasn't fought because Nazis were homophobic (among other things), it was fought because of events spiralling from the UK's political alliance with Poland.

The extent of the genocide only really came out afterward.
